The five-minute dark-out on Saturday night was a symbolic gesture in the City of Light.
France has been preparing for months to host an international climate conference in Paris at the end of the year, pressing nations to set attainable goals for reducing greenhouse gases and mobilizing international finances to fight climate change.
Earth Hour was launched in 2007 by the World Wildlife Fund to encourage awareness of environmental issues. The idea is to turn off lights for an hour — not possible for safety reasons for the Eiffel Tower.

I guess you're about the only one here who knows what this event really means.
It's really disheartening to see such disregard for our future and that of our children.
Have a pleasant evening !
Why would you assume that she is the only one here that knows what this event means?

Marp2, another sweeping generalization. I know what it's about and no, I won't be participating.

I turned off all the lights for an hour. Not a problem Earth Hour only asked people to turn off non-essential lights, no one was expected to turn off lights that may have caused a dangerous situation. As the Earth Hour website said, it was a beginning.

Yes we did (after our family dinner guests left), except for the gas heat because its 28 here in PA. I lit flameless candles through out the downstairs for that hour.

If everyone turned off their computers, TV's etc... for just one hour, think of the all the MONEY, not to mention electricity would be saved by not shopping!! Do this daily, NOT just once a year!
