I know I'm repeating myself, but I still marvel at what a good "husband" our Shadow is. He's always there for Jackie, whatever she needs. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
@Tinkrbl44 he sure is. He is loving, devoted, and just supportive. Heck, my husband coukd take a few hints from Shadow, no kidding, lol lol. More humans coukd learn from these two. The give and take, as if there is is beautiful symphony going on. One moves the other moves in unison. They know each other
shadow fought form Jackie, kicked her old husband out of the nest. And moved his way in, inch by inch. He knew what he wanted, lol. I can see a book of the two, a sort of getting along through thick and thin with Grace. I think it would be a great fund raiser. I think a book with real, photos from the nest. It's not like we need release signatures or anything, lol! lol. I am afraid I am getting too attached to them.

Our beloved pair, Jackie and Shadow, must still have some important eagle business to attend to around their habitat as they have been a bit elusive this past week or so.
Since their morning nest visit together thirteen days ago, and Shadow's first stick delivery that same afternoon, the cameras have still likely captured each of them on various trees this past week. There have been hawks, as well as ravens, hanging around the lake that Jackie and Shadow may have had to deal with or chase off as they are out and about defending their territory.
Tuesday afternoon, they made their presence known as one of them perched on the Lookout Snag while a hawk briefly stopped by the Cactus Snag. Later, an eagle returned and was spotted again for almost an hour on the Lookout Snag and then one headed to the Twin Pine.
For the moment, they seem to still be busy perching and defending during the day and sleeping somewhere other than the Roost Tree at night.
Yesterday morning, one of our pair was on their favorite Lookout Snag, again for nearly an hour. As it was leaving, a talon got caught up on a branch and it was a bit unsettling for a moment until it was freed and then was able to fly off unhindered. Later in the afternoon, one of them landed on the Twin Pine and was partially hidden as it perched and observed in the branches for an hour and a half.
Nestorations typically begin to pick up around mid-November with more sticks and regular eagle visits, as they begin to prepare the nest for eggs.
We are also hoping to hear more of those lovely eagle chortles again soon, as well as see their nightly visits back in the Roost Tree. Until then, since they know best, we will continue to be patient and wait for their perfect timing!
Our wide-view cam2 is fully functional with the return of the pan and zoom features, and again all necessary work was done from the ground.

Yesterday Jackie and Shadow visited the nest for over an hour! Jackie flew in first, showing off her full crop. She gave the nest a good inspection before Shadow joined her.
It seems Jackie heard worries about fans not being able to identify her with her molted clean head, so, she kindly put a new dark smudge exactly where the old one had been—now everyone is set for telling them apart again!
Jackie and Shadow stood together admiring their nest and surroundings. They each picked at a few sticks, watched bugs in the nest bowl and seemed to be thoroughly enjoying hanging with each other and regrounding in their home territory.
Jackie was also showing off her perfectly healthy eyes. For anyone who didn’t hear, one monetized FB page (‘Big Bear Lake Bald Eagles’—NOT affiliated with FOBBV or the nest cam; and NOT a place to go for eagle truth or accuracy) has been saying Jackie had a severely injured right eye. That group admin even sent people to find evidence on our livestream of the injury – they found 4 places where her right eye closed for a few seconds—out of over an hour of livestream footage with her eye open and fine.
To assist, this video shows 2 places where Jackie closed her LEFT eye for a few seconds…
…It’s almost as if bald eagles randomly close one eye or the other, especially when it’s windy (like yesterday) or they are a bit sleepy and looking like they might want a nap.
Bald eagles have 3 eyelids that open and close individually. When the one called a ‘nictitating membrane’ is closed by itself (see below), it looks amazingly like the photographs that were posted claiming an eye injury.
After a long time in the nest together, Jackie and Shadow stuck around for close ups showing how bright, not-quite-clean, and healthy they both are. Shadow then hopped out to the side front porch to make sure he checked around the entire neighborhood.
Jackie joined Shadow out there for some nest tree swaying before they each flew off on an exciting day of adventure.
It’s always great to see them both!

Looks like the webcam is offline.
Perhaps doing repairs and checking equipment to get ready for the next nest of eggs? Looks like Jackie and Shadow are getting ready.

@Mz iMac We could, I think Tink should do that myself, as she is more responsible than me. lol. Oh, @Mz iMac I can't wait, jus t can't wait. I wonder why Eagles here mate this time of year, lol. I get shivers thinking of them in that snow and ice, and hunkering down in the rain. Brrrr...but, it's what Eagles do, why else would they call them Eagles, lol.?

@Tinkrbl44 Live cam 1 is up for me. I didn't check cam 2.

@Mz iMac that's right, I keep misspeaking. Nest making and egg laying are two totally different time frames. I just love it when they say, Shadow brought the first stick of the season. lol just too cute. Here in California (I am in more Northern CA) the coldest time of year traditionally is January to March. With mid January to mid Feb being the worst! That's IF we are on a normal cycle.
