@shoekitty  WOW this interesting,  I'm happy for both of our States who care about the birds.

Now, as far as rain here?   No problem.  Let Jackie and Shadow fly down for a visit in Florida.Heart

Jackie delivers her first new “fancy” stick of the season!

Eagle Image

Jackie and Shadow had a very full afternoon on Tuesday last week as they spent time doing some tree hopping together. They started out on the Twin Pine, a tree that has become one of their favorites. From there, they moved over to the Split Pine, a less familiar tree, but a tree that Sunny, one of the eaglets from Jackie and Shadow’s last clutch, flew to and she hung out there for a while after fledging.

Before leaving for the nest tree, Shadow snapped a small branch off the Split Pine with his talons before heading out. He arrived at the nest, breathing hard, with his new addition in tow. He looked for his lady and saw her on the way. Her wing beats were heard before her arrival and she too was breathing hard.

She went all out as she delivered her first stick of the season and Shadow also seemed quite impressed with her new fun find! It was a lovely fresh piece to brighten up their nest, a decorator limb from a white pine tree with some bright green needles attached.

As they worked together, they bumped around while doing some nestorations and stumbled upon a larger stick they could move together.

After securing that stick, Shadow hopped up to the back porch branch to survey the area. After taking a couple of close looks down at her toes, Jackie decided to join him. There still seems to be plenty of room for the two of them up there, even if Shadow may have felt a bit cramped as Jackie hopped up and tried to get cozy.

Shadow took off for the Roost Tree first, perhaps thinking he now needs to step up his stick game since Jackie was the clear winner with her stick. Jackie quickly followed her love to the Roost Tree where they spent the night together.

Unfortunately, Jackie's new colorful stick decor shifted a couple of times overnight by the elements. The next morning it dropped off the nest, but we can be pretty sure it will likely be replaced by more cool sticks in the days and weeks ahead.

As some cooler, wet weather moves through the area this weekend, please stay safe Jackie and Shadow and have a wonderful Sunday eagle family!

Bringing new sticks and tidying the old

Eagle Image

Over the past few days, Jackie and Shadow have visited the nest a few times, plus been at the roost tree and at a few of the other perch trees.

Last Wednesday morning while it was sunny before the storms started, Jackie brought a nice curly stick that she decided belonged right in the middle of the nest. With that placed, she checked out the rest of the nest, not seeming to notice that each of her steps made that new stick stand at attention.

Then she hopped onto the back limb for a moment to check around the area. She jumped down into the nest again just in time for Shadow to circle around the nest tree twice before flying through the front door to land by Jackie.

After he arrived, they helped each other fix the stick Jackie had brought in earlier to get it in just the right location—Jackie very kindly let Shadow have the last word about it.

They both stuck around for a few minutes to make sure everything was in proper order, then Shadow headed off the front porch. Jackie followed him about a minute later.

On Monday morning Shadow dropped in first to the Lookout Snag and Jackie soon landed beside him so they could give the neighborhood a good evaluation before heading off for the day.

By mid-day, Shadow had collected a nice stick from a tree nearby and brought it to the nest. It only took him a few bumps and twists to get the stick laid down correctly.

He stayed to keep an eye on what might have been some ravens circling the area, then headed off the front porch for the day.

There were a few rain and snowstorms in between their visits, and more storms on their way. It’s great that Jackie and Shadow visit in between!

@Tinkrbl44   Snow, oh my!!!  I know my grand in Toluca Lake said it has poured rain, and has been cold!  So I can imagine how they are doing at BBL.   I am going to go take a peek.  Are you having rain for a few days?

Someone is very intent on getting those sticks in just right!!!\ might be Jackie.  Maybe if someone looks at nest now they can tell I had 4:05pm. California standard time

I heard something on the news that hadn't occurred to me ... that the rain we've had has essentially ended CA's fall fire season.  Everything is too wet to burn, which is great news.  Plus, rain cleans the air.

I think the snow in the nest is going to get Shadow and Jackie kicking into high gear.

@ that is great about lifting of fire season!  I know it poured badly.  yesterday !  Plus help with water levels for all that water SoCal sends out of state.  lol. Yes, maybe the snow will give them in the hunker down in the nest syndrome.  Did you happen to catch the cam with one of them fussing in the nest?   They were intent and busy

@Tinkrbl44 @Mz iMac  I watched them a long time today all settled in nest. Then it looked like Jackie, was up front. Looked at into camera long time,...but she turned when I shot photo lol. Shadow seemed to be on look out.  Then Shadow, or whom ever, flew off...and Jackie followed shortly.  I tried to post photos I took, no luck. Says they are too large. Is there anything I can do. I don't know why, they are small pics, and even clicked small size ...but no luck. Darn it.

The webcam hasn't been working, but I've no doubt our handsome Shadow is out there selecting interesting new sticks for his lady love, Jackie.   Heart  Heart
