🦅 Eagle Cam 🦅

From YouTube.....

Big Bear Bald Eagle Live Nest - Cam 1

"The nest is located in Big Bear Valley in the San Bernardino Mountains of Southern California. It is about 145 feet up in a Jeffrey Pine tree. It is the current home for Jackie & Shadow, a local bald eagle pair. ℹWhat's happening at the nest: Eggs were laid on 1/22, 1/25, 1/28."

As of today 3/5/25, the 3rd egg has not hatched. Smiley Sad Mom Jackie is still sitting on it & has not buried it.

@Mz iMac

I've been watching for days and was SO happy - and relieved - for Jackie and Shadow.  This bonded pair had their first eaglet family of 3 in 2017.

Like many around the world, I was so heartbroken when none of her 3 eggs hatched last year, 2024.  She sat on them long after it was obvious they'd never hatch, but Momma Bird just couldn't leave them.  Finally, Papa Shadow got her to leave and we all wondered if they'd ever return.

In 2023 the eggs didn't hatch, either, and I believe it was because of extreme cold.   In addition, ravens often try to attack the nests and eat the eggs.  Shadow has gone after ravens when he sees them getting too close to Mom sitting on the nest.

They are a stunningly sweet and devoted pair.  I read the eagle cams have even watched them argue over whose turn it was to sit on the eggs.

It take about 6 weeks for the babies to get their waterproof feathers, so they have to be kept warm and safe until then.

Congrats to the proud new parents ... and hoping the third egg occupant makes an appearance soon!

For anyone interested, the Big Bear Live Cam is on 24/7 to observe what's going on.  A lot of time we'd just see an eagle sitting on her nest, but now the parents have to run out and get bugs and fish to feed the two little demanding babies.

I just checked.  All is quiet with the third egg.

The two babies are getting settled in the nice, warm nest.  Mom and Dad go out to get food and bring it to them.   They are new to the planet, but life is good.

Lots of work for mom and dad to keep the babies fed and warm.   Hope all goes well.

Before I even got out of bed I had to check the eagle cam.  Woman Happy

It snowed and the nest is covered.  Jackie looks like she's sitting on a pile of snow, but I'm sure she has her babies nice and warm.

About the third egg .........

Historically, Jackie's eggs hatch on the 38th or 39th day.  Today, Thursday March 6th, is the 36th day for the third egg.

So, no one is worried about no pips yet ... except for me.  I really want that egg to hatch!
