Re: 🦅 Eagle Cam 🦅

[ Edited ]

Birds of all species can adapt.  Even the gold finches that flock to the Niger seed sock here , they hand in 30 mph winds lol. That sock is swingin in the wind, and they latch and go at seed!  They seems more active in bad weather.  Maybe survival.   As the weather get cold they can adapt, almost like a fish in torpor.  An Eagle is so powerful, I would think it would take a lot to knock them off next.  And like most parents, they get super skills when their kids are endangered.  I don't like to watch during these times. It's hard.  But they do okay in the end,... for the most part.   IDK WHY birds mate in this weather, lol.  The gold finches and jays are at it, some having young right now. I say wait a month. But who listens to me. Lol

You could see during the live feed that the baby was accidently stabbed by Shadow's claw. I think that is how the little baby died and it's probably still there covered in snow.  I can't watch this anymore, it is just too heartbreaking.

This is taken from the Eagle Log for 3-14-25 ...   I just posted a portion, but there's more if you want to read it yourself.

The current situation regarding Jackie, Shadow and their three chicks, as of 17:30 PST:

At this time, we cannot see the entire nest bowl because the camera’s view remains partially obstructed by a snow berm around the bowl, so we do not know the situation in that area of the nest.

During the first feeding session today, only two chicks were visible in the portion of the nest that can be seen. The two chicks appeared awake and aware and both were fed.

All chicks are likely still in the clear space in the nest bowl, which is quite wide. All three were seen yesterday evening during the last feeding; and Jackie and Shadow did not remove anything from the bowl large enough to be a chick.

Some inaccurate information being spread needs correction to avoid confusion. One false report says Shadow stepped on a chick yesterday afternoon. The truth: as Shadow was exiting the bowl, one chick was resting atop his foot, which they often do. It was briefly pulled away from the other chicks, but rolled back to them quickly. All 3 chicks were visible in the bowl at that time and were all also viewed feeding later.

A second false report involves Jackie’s wingslap of a flying squirrel visit to the nest very early today. Truth: Jackie threw bits of snow from the nest during that episode, but nothing large enough to be a chick. Jackie’s wingslaps are on the surface. The bowl is deep and the chicks are large and heavy.

Jackie and Shadow have made five food deliveries today. Jackie’s last feeding of the two chicks was at 17:24 PST. We are expecting clear skies tomorrow.

Birds have such human like habits at times, .this is sad so you may not want to read.

Blue Jays and Crows can mourn the loss of a mate or baby.  We had a Jay  (Bobby) loose his mate by hitting side of house .  We left the body alone because the mate kept swooping the dead bird, trying to get her up.  He did this for a while, then perched on tree branch above her and squaked this sound I never heard. Like a painful squeak  He did this on and off for hours. I left them alone. When it started to get dark we moved bird to safe place under bush where he could see her.  He was back next day. And left that afternoon. I was so heart broken, I still think of him and his mate. I hope that never happens again.  Crows can mourn the same way, and they say they even have so called funerals for them.  Maybe Jackie and Shadow will keep the bird for a while?

It's feeding time again and one is getting the food and I'm worried about the little one.

Have you been able to get the audio today?  Did they turn it off because of the wind?

No audio today.  I usually keep it down because I don't like hearing the wind.  It looks and sounds like Neptune.  Brrrr

I saw where the news is saying that it's confirmed that one of the eaglets has died.  That was on the news (CBS I think).  Sad to hear.
