Congratulations. It's amazing how many pups a GSD has sometimes. Our breeder has had 15 even.

My yellow lab born almost 11 years ago was part of a little of 12 puppies.  Six boys and six girls.  And yes she has been fixed.

About 40 years ago, I decided to breed my show quality Irish Setter & thought she'd be a good mommy.  Wrong!  She had 17 puppies, 2 were stillborn & 1 died the next day of aspiration pneumonia (vet did autopsy).  The poor thing was in labor for 20 hours & I had to take her to the emergency vet for eclampsia.  I was left with 14 puppies & she had 7 nipples & really didn't want much of anything to do with a bunch of puppies crawling all over her.  I had to order her to lay down to nurse them in shifts & I kept them divided in 2 boxes of 7 each & would put 7 on her to nurse & then, I'd take them off & put the other 7 on & supplemental bottle feed & "potty" the 1st batch with a washcloth soaked in warm water to stimulate them go.  I took 2 weeks off work to do this, as it was a 24 hour a day job caring for them. For 3 months, I went no where but to work & back & took care of the pups.   After the puppies went off to their new owners, the 1st thing I did was get her spayed!  I was exhausted & said "never again!"!  I was so envious of my dog show friends who had 6-8 pups & mom-dog was a good mother & it was pleasant experience for them!
