Here's a striking photo of the two of them on another June 26, when they opened the historic St. Lawrence Seaway. It was 1959, and the Seaway was the result of long years of work by a joint U.S.- Canadian commission.
For the first time, there was now an unbroken system of 2500 miles of river, lake, canal and locks, all the way from the Atlantic, deep into the heart of the North American continent at Duluth, Minnesota.
President Eisenhower had a special feeling for Britain, of course, central as he was to the War effort there as a brilliant general. The bluff, genial president and the ever-gracious monarch, caught for one second as they survey the Seaway project form the Britannia...

That's interesting, @goldensrbest-- for some reason, I don't usually think of history that way. It's always fresh, always has something to reveal, even if the photos are grainy, and the documents crumbling....
