Re: E-COLI IN ROMAINE LETTUCE AGAIN

I already ate my fair share of romaine lettuce today.  I don't have anymore...so far so good. I feel okay.

I did have e-coli once.  It's not an experience I want to repeat.

Re: E-COLI IN ROMAINE LETTUCE AGAIN

went to three grocery stores today......all of them were pulling all romaine products, loose and bagged.

we received a call this afternoon from a local gourmet grocery store that is delivering some food for us tomorrow. they are cancelling our caesar salad due to the recall.

I'm sooooo glad I shop from local farmers! Our annual Thanksgiving Farmers Market was yesterday where I bought my fresh local turkey, fresh local potatoes, fresh local everything!! I never have to worry about any warnings from the CDC.

Is your local Farmers Market one that limits vendors to "family gardens" with a verification process?

If a vendor went to a grocery store, bought 20 heads of romaine then brought it to the Farmers Market to sell would you be able to tell?

The contaminated romaine was/is local to somewhere.

Re: E-COLI IN ROMAINE LETTUCE AGAIN

I saw this post on Facebook...this lady brought up a good point.

More deaths with Salmonella from meat products than anything,

but yet we don’t recall all meat products.

Just...seems suspicious. Not s.a.y.i.n.g, just saying

Unfortunately the lettuce farmers are going to take a major hit this

year being 2 massive recalls in 1 year.  Customer confidence will

also be a cause for low sales in the future due to these unnecessary

recalls.  It;s unfortunate their product is tainted by not their doing.

@Tyak

Even though I heard this on the news I appreciate the reminder.

Anyway, I was checking to see if washing the lettuce with produce wash would help, and it doesn't.

I wash ALL fruits and vegetables with produce wash before I store them, and thought I was safe.  I am not.

Evidently e-coli cannot be washed off Cat Sad

I just opened a fresh bag of romaine hearts last night and we had salad for dinner.  I hate throwing ANY food away!

Would you like to be the one to tell the 13 people that have already be hospitalized, including the one in kidney failure, that the recall is unnecessary?

There is no comparison to salmonella and this strain of E. coli ( E. coli O157:H7) which is particularly virulent and produces shinga toxin that can severely damage the intestinal system.

When was the last time you saw a recall that not only recommended of disposing of the food but also disinfecting the refrigerator/storage places?

But hey, if you think this recall is a form of economic warfare go ahead and take your chances.  Just saying.
