These stupid people who talk on the phone or text must have a death wish. Well, so be it. However, don't kill or injure innocent people. The same for drunk drivers. It always seems like the guilty party escapes uninjured and the innocents suffer.

From the OP- Its illegal here too! (In PA) but they don't do anything about it (obviously) because I see people on phones every time we are out.
I should have taken the time to compose myself and get her license number. But I did not.. because I thought we were going to be crashing over a curb.
Thank you for the comments.
Please drive safe everyone!

Shorty, I bet your words just flew out of your mouth and shocked your husband. I used to pretend I was writing license number down when some one did something stupid and almost caused a accident. My friend would throw a fit and tell me to stop that someone was going to shoot us some day. Glad you two are okay sorry it spoiled your night.

At any rate, I do not talk on my cell phone when I drive, and I am aways concerned when someone drives past me with a phone to the ear. It's distracting, to say the least.
LOL! Me too
Yeah, I just hate it when people let driving interfere with their cellophaning, er, I mean, cell phoning.
Thanks for your good natured response. Sometimes that isn't always the case.

I hear you! I am in CA and it is against the law, but so many do it. One time I took a picture of the license, and the driver. I reported it. IDK if anything happened, but it is suppose to. They were holding up traffic in the fast lane. They slowed to 35MPH, then would go 50MPH then slow down to 30MPH. This is on interstate 101, and they almost got hit 2X, but were clueless as to what was happening.. Jerks!
I live in a small town. My husband jogs. One time he was jogging and a young girl almost swerved into him. She was on her phone. That day , our good friend happened to be right behind that girl. He saw the whole thing. He followed her to a Taco Bell, where our friend had called the police. Long story short, our friend (who was an off duty officer) told the police she was on her phone and totally unaware she came within 1 inch of hitting a jogger (who was in the jogging lane). She denied it, but officer looked at her phone, and our friend made charges as a citizen. Our friend was furious, but he said having a daughter her age he was concerned. The girl was unaware of her environment due to talking on the phone. He told her he was pressing charges so she would learn, as it could have turned out to be something she would regret her whole life.

I work for a law firm. We have a client who has been in bad accidents 4 times in the 15 years I've been here and 3 minor accidents. Not one of these 7 have been his fault but how nuts is that? I'd give up driving. LOL
My husband's best friend's girlfriend has rear-ended people twice while on her phone during rush hour traffic. You'd think she would have learned after the first time. She's lucky both accidents were fairly minor.
Just because they weren't his fault doesn't mean he couldn't have avoided them. 7 accidents tells me that he's not paying attention to what's going on around him and has no clue about defensive driving. He probably should give up driving IMHO.

Unfortunately, you can blame the cellphone for unfocused driving.
Right now, at this very nano-second, there are drivers on the road which are totally unfocused...without a cellphone.
A Soccer Mom with tons of screaming kids in the back....a truck driver @ the end of his trip & he's bone tired....an elderly folk refusing to give up her "freedom"....an office worker needing to not call in sick, but took their sinus meds before leaving home.
Lots, lots & lots of reasons for "unfocused" driving.

I agree.
There are many reasons for driving while distracted and you identified some very common ones. To these, add the person on the way to work eating breakfast and the tourist who is sightseeing while driving.
Cell phone usage is certainly in the mix, but far and away not the only reason for distraction.
