will soon place free pregnancy tests in their women's restrooms. This action is being taken in 20 bars across the state and is intended to help lower the rate of fetal alcohol syndrome. Alaska has the highest rate of infants born with FAS in the country.
Good idea?

"Gosh, I just tested positive! Bartender, drinks are on me!" Kinda' silly in my opinion. Don't you think a lot of the pregnacies happen at home during the cold dark months when you just stay home and drink?

It's too late by then...although any kind of intervention is better than none.
My cousin's husband was an Army GYN and worked on an Inuit reservation in Alaska for 5 years. They adopted a daughter - their 7th child and only girl. Her birth mom was an alcoholic - it was a very common problem even back 30 years ago. The girl had developmental issues...also very common.
Free con doms might be a better idea!

I don't think it's too late. Those tests can show pregnancy quite early. If it prompts one woman to decide not to drink, I think it's worth it.

I think it's a great idea. If even one baby is spared this horrendous syndrome it will have been worth it. In addition to taking the actual test...it is a visual reminder of ""think before you drink""
The prophylactic free isn't a bad idea either.

Perfect idea for the woman who's dumber than a box of rocks.

Don't women know about birth control?
A pregnancy test in a bar bathroom? Seriously?

Don't you need to take the test first thing in the morning?
Or has that changed since I last used a kit 33 years ago????

A condom machine next the the pregnancy tests would be a good idea, too.
