I knew a family
@151949 wrote:I grew up drinking raw milk but it was from OUR cow in our clean barn and was milked by my Dad with his clean hands.Even so I don't think i would drink it now. Why does it taste so good - all the fat is still in it - the cream is still in there. My Mom used to give us Heidi's milk while it was still warm from her body before we left for school, to keep us warm.
I knew a family that had a clean cow, who lived in a clean barn, and they milked the cow with their clean hands. Their very own flies sat around the rim of the bucket containing their milk.

The bigger issue is...no adult human should be drinking animal milk.
Period.
There are different ways to obtain your calcium needs.
Blood, pus, antibiotics....those are just a few of the things in animal Drinking milk from another species is just an amazing generational marketing scheme from The Dairy Council.
Milk doesn't do a body good...raw or not.
@sidsmom **Sometimes your advice makes a lot of sense but way out in left field with this one. Milk is the best source of calcium. Period. I don't know where people come up with this kind of advice.
**Thanks!
Cultures around the world rely on plant-based sources for their nutritional needs....up and including calcium.
There are too many studies to back this up. I'm surprised in this day/age people still have this antiquated 'animals are best' mentality. Lots and lots of plant-based studies.
Where do we get this information?
The Gold Standard of plant-based research is The China Study by Dr. T. Colin Campbell. He has spent decades studying the benefits of eating a plant-based diet. But again, there are TONS of resources backing up the benefits of a plant-based diet.
Dark leafy greens & legumes are the best sources of calcium.
Pssst:
Where do you think cows get THEIR calcium to grow strong bones?
Greens! 😀
I really don't mean to be a smarty pants but this post is why people should never ever take medical advice from a message board.
I agree.
I take my medical advice from my doctor, a real M.D. who has actually gone to medical school, and knows my medical history, over the "theories" that are posted here by annoymous people.

EXCELLENT POST! You're correct. She's wrong.
She's wrong? Based on WHAT? Do you have anything scientific to back this up, or is this just another opinion?

Medical advice from a doctor....who only took minimal hours of nutritional based studies in medical school.
The plant-based doctors I mention in numerous posts are classically trained medical doctors...in fact, one off the top of my head is Ivy League trained: Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Yale University.....and of The Cleveland Clinic for Heart Health. But these doctors are forward thinking....food is & always WILL be better than medicine.

I know people read stuff on the internet and fall for it hook ,line and sinker. They really do not even understand what is needed by their bodies. Next they are here comparing how much vit D supplement and calcium supplement they take --- Holy mackeral --- just eat a balanced diet and spend some time outside. Heck I have kidney disease which really lowers your vit d and I still am within normal levels. Everyone here reads a few nut cases on the internet and thinks they are the world's expert.

Pfffft. Whatever.
My doctor still knows my medical history better than any so-called "experts" here.
I think I'll listen to him.

Doesn't matter where these doctors were trained and educated. Only your personal physician knows your medical history. To lump everyone into a single category without acknowledging the uniqueness of every individual's health background is dangerous which is why there's always the "talk to your doctor" disclaimer (aka "don't sue the author if it doesn't work out for you") up front and center to these recommendations.
This should be common sense.

And children under the age of 2 but after the age of 1 year need whole milk (once the pediatrician okays it) because certain fats contained in whole milk (4% milkfat) are needed for adequate brain development. After the age of 2, with the pediatrican's okay, a parent can switch their child to 1% milkfat or 2%.
From this website:https://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/002455.htm
Cow's milk is not recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics for children under 1 year old. Children under the age of 2 should not be given low-fat milk (2%, 1%, or skim) as they need the additional calories from fat to ensure proper growth and development.

I can only speak for myself but I drank raw milk (our own cow) and I had two healthy big boys
She needs to speak to her doctor and they know the best thing for the baby.
Things have changed so much in the last several years.
But I think some of the old ways are still the best ways.
