She shouldn't be drinking cow's milk period.

I wouldn't touch raw milk.

And there's evidence mounting which links bovine antibodies to early-onset Type 1 diabetes.

Can't imagine how a parent could continue to give cow's milk to their children knowing this information. Knowingly giving your child that burden of T1 diabetes & all the complications because of it...wow.

For the most part the farmers who are selling raw milk do not give their cows hormones or antibiotics. That is why people chose to use it.It is just 100% pure milk and none of the bad stuff in modern grocery store milk.The cows graze in a pasture instead of eating feed filled with hormones and antibiotics. However, I think I would really only trust my own healthy cow in my own clean barn being milked by a person with clean hands into a bucket and not a milking machine if I were going to do this.

It's the bovine serum albumin...which is derived from cows...which is linked to T1 diabetes. Not the antibiotics/medications administered, but the cow itself which has this protein. Healthy, homegrown....those cows still have that protein.

ETA: Plus milk has casein...which is a property to cause the 'addiction' to milk/cheese. That casein causes the offspring (in this case, calf) to return to the mother for its food source until it's weaned. Many say the 1st birthday cake is jokingly called "baby's first sugar"....but once the toddler is weaned from mother's milk/formula to cow's milk, it's called "baby's first addiction'. Ask any vegetarian that moves to vegan....cheese is the hardest food item to give up.

Haven't read any of the responses, but can tell you this: In my second year of nursing school, we took a required course - Nutrition." We had a fantastic PhD professor and a wonderful syllabus.

Several notable things learned and one was that one should never drink raw milk, the operative word being "Never."

Thats pure foolishness. All pasteurization does is kill harmful bacteria... does your daughter want bacteria? It's a heat process, nothing is added. Drinking raw milk from unknown sources can be very dangerous. It tastes funny too.

@sidsmom Sometimes your advice makes a lot of sense but way out in left field with this one. Milk is the best source of calcium. Period. I don't know where people come up with this kind of advice.
