My daughter - she's 21
- was just telling me about one of her acquaintances who is currently pregnant and drinking raw milk.
She also apparently hasn't seen an MD but instead consults doulas and midwives.
From what I read, drinking raw milk is unsafe during pregnancy.
Has anyone known of a pregnant person doing this?

Does the expectant mother feel that there is some benefit to her and/or the baby by drinking raw milk?

This woman is an ignorant fool. Maybe somebody can educate her on the importance of prenatal medical care and diet.

She's very "crunchy," as they say, and seems to be wanting to safeguard the baby from anything toxic or non-organic. This is her first baby.

I got TB from drinking raw, unpasteurized milk (my mother said) when I was very little, approximately two. Pasteurization had just been invented/or at least, regularly used in processing.
We lived in DE, in a more heavily populated city... my TB test has been positive my whole life!
Don't let her do this!

I don't see the issue as it's only recently in human history where pasteurization was even available. If it didn't kill off humans then, why would it now with even better sanitation?

First developed by Louis Pasteur in 1864, pasteurization
kills harmful organisms responsible for such diseases as
staph, listeriosis, typhoid fever, tuberculosis, diphtheria,
and brucellosis. Raw milk can seriously affect the health
of anyone who drinks it or eats foods made from raw milk.
The bacteria in raw milk can be especially dangerous to
people with weakened immune systems, older adults,
pregnant women, and children.

We know a man and his wife that drink unpasturized milk on a regular basis. They say it tastes better. I wouldn't dare do it. Especially if I was pregnant.

Funny how everyone's a-twitter over the 'raw' aspect.
The bigger issue is...no adult human should be drinking animal milk.
Period.
There are different ways to obtain your calcium needs.
Blood, pus, antibiotics....those are just a few of the things in animal milk.
Drinking milk from another species is just an amazing generational marketing scheme from The Dairy Council.
Milk doesn't do a body good...raw or not.
