I tend to think dreams are just a collection of thoughts, memories, experiences that your brain just "spits out" in the form of a dream.

However the other night I had one that was pretty specific in memories from like 50 yrs. ago that's been bugging me.

What do you think of dreams??

I find that some are warnings, and some are predictions...   (and some are just too much pizza)

Weird dreams of my Dad. No idea what it meant.  HS BF & I dreamed of each other on same night, more than once. I've dreamt that there was a hidden/secret room in my house a lot.  I don't know what that is...

From my experience those that are repetitive are very important.  Most often they are sending a message, even warnings, we need to look at.

They are often difficult to figure out, but if we pay close attention, often the message is revealed.

Other times, I think they just sort out occurrences that might have some meaning, sometimes not.

Like you @denisemb , I tend to think they are just collections of random things, experiences, and people we were close to and others. I like having dreams where the past and present intersect, usually with my family at the beach in present day but my late mom is there, as I remember her as a teenager.

I tend to have the common one a lot of people have. I'm rushing late into a high school class where there is a test everyone is finishing. I didn't know there would be one, and I have 10 minutes to finish. Usually the people in the room with me are not identified. It's just the experience. I'm not sure what it means. I was a good student in high school and college who became a teacher, so maybe my subconscious is telling me to get to work on the things I need to! Smiley Wink

I hate being in the middle of a dream when the alarm goes off or the phone rings. And even if it's a good powerful one that seems so real, I can't remember it to tell my family later on.

Many times, I think dreams contain hidden messages to our personalities and give us a place to face our problems and fears. While we are sleeping, our very sophisticated brain presents us with vignettes that show us things we usually don't think about during the day. If you can learn to interpret the messages in your dreams, you can discover a lot about yourself.

@denisemb   I think most dreams are what you said in your first sentence. I can think of a couple of dreams, however, that I believe were messages from above given to help me through some hard times.

It is interesting how something that happened, or was discussed during the day, appears in my dreams. It's usually in some convoluted way, but I generally can find a connection.

I think dreams help us work out issues we can't when we're awake. I also think we can receive messages through our dreams. Our brains and subconcious are remarkable things and work in ways we don't really understand.

I remember back in one of my school science classes (back when I had a pet dinosaur) we studied dreams and the brain for a short time.  It was pretty much what @denisemb said:  just tidbits your subscious collects during the day and then spits out when you sleep.  But your brain tailors those tidbits for you -- like your certain fears or what makes you happy or people in your life.  Or old memories.

I often have dreams about family and friends who have now passed on -- like I'll dream I'm shopping with my mom, for instance, and she's been gone for 25 years.
