I start dreaming of warm weather around the first of November. By now I'm begging for warm weather. Oh well, just four more months unitl May.

I can relate to that, we had several single digit days and the cold was brutal. The snow froze solid and walking was hazardous. We're only in our late 50's and we want to retire financially comfortably with no money issues. The plan is to retire when we are 70, maybe 72 and to retire to warm place, to say adios to the cold and to snow and sleet. My parents are gone, no constraints there. Hubby isn't close to his parents, so no constraints there. But we do have two precious grandchildren now and definitely put wrinkle in our plans to relocate. It's just not going to happen because we both want to be hands on grandparents. We want to be a part of their lives, spend time with them. I know people are visiting grandparents but that wouldn't work for me. So, now we are thinking that in our retirement years, we will spend the coldest part of winter Jan&Feb and maybe even March in the warmth. Where? We don't know yet but there's a lot of time to figure it out.

@nova. I’m in Virginia and the last few days have been 17-23. It’s now a warmer 28! The wind has been terrible.
Yesterday in Target I saw a small plaque made like wood with the words: “White winter days that melt into Spring”
It is on my mantle next to a pot of daffodils. I have been humming songs from The Sound of Music all day.
AND the real daffodils are coming up about 3”.
Tomorrow will be near 60 so I can walk the dogs further. This is coldest it’s been here this Winter and we really are not accustomed to the bitter cold.
But the promise of Spring is in the air!

We're in the same spot. Grandchildren in the area, husband's parents in their 80s and live close by, daughter and her family living southwest of us in Arizona. Retiring at the end of the year and will try two winter months in Seacrest Beach, FL. We'll see how it goes. Being away from Midwest winter in January and February will help with the winter blahs. Hope the sun comes out for you soon and you get a reprieve.

I live in the suburbs east of NYC.We’re freezing our butts off!! I hate it. DH & I have decided that in the winter of 2021 we will begin to spend 2-3 mo a year in Florida.By then our son will be out of law school & established. If DH is still working he can work from there since he works from home 3-4 days a week. His boss has already given DH the okay.
I hope to begin looking for a condo in Florida later on this year.
I hate freezing!! I hate snow & ice!! I love New York, but I can no longer handle the brutal winters!!

Being a native NY'er who became a reitred snowbird 4 years ago, I send you all Florida warmth and sunshine! Close your eyes, imagine digging your piglets into the warm sand and listen to those waves crashing. Feel the sun beating down on you and enjoy the warmth. Stay strong and dream of those better, snow free, cold free days ahead! Best, LuLu

I'm dreaming of warm weather also..lol I live in PA and it was just 10 and 11 degrees with wind chills below zero. Not a fan of Winter since I'm older. Wont be moving though. My kids/grandkids are an hour and 1&1/2 hours away. My husband works nearby. Id never want to live in the south, especially Florida. My dream would be to live in California. But its not going to happen because I like being near my kids and grandkids.

@NicksmomESQ, DH and I are home owners in Westchester County. We have been snowbirds on the Space Coast of FL since January of 2016 - our 4th season here. We love it! The taxes in NY (we own 4 acres) are out of control. Our Con Edison bill is obscene (and we really do all we can to keep it down). We too have always loved NY growing up in the Hudson Valley. But between the taxes and the bitter winters we will probably be selling our home within the next two - three years.
If I may be presumptuous, I would suggest you vacation in various parts of FL before you buy anything. DH and I went all over the state before we built our home here. We spent a lot of time in FL, and decided the Space Coast was for us - and love it! Stay strong through those Long Island winters! Best to you, LuLu

@Its Me LuLuBelle2 Thanks for the advice & good wishes.Where is the Space Coast? What town do you live in?
DH & I will probably never move to Florida full time . We would never leave our son.But I do agree that it’s very expensive to live here.Taxes & utilities are through the roof.
Our hope is to go back & forth between New York & Florida. We do intend on checking out several areas before we decide. So any advice is much appreciated. We have friends/ family in Naples, Kissimmee,Tampa,Boca Raton & Fort Lauderdale.Right now we are open to go anywhere. No particular place stands out.
