I was just going through read outs from my family and pain Dr.s to shred. The last time I was at my family Dr I did NOT have my regular Dr (a woman) because when I had surgery they set up an appointment due to my blood pressure being high. SO I had a man Dr. (the place we go for our family Dr has like 4 Dr.s and PA's etc).

Well he checked my BP that day (it was very high yet and Im on meds so he told me to double mine) and on the papers under comments it says advised not to go to fast food places. A. He NEVER said that to me and B. DH and I NEVER and I mean NEVER eat at fast food places such as Burger King, McDonalds, Wendys etc because well their food is junk (IMO).

I have to laugh how the Dr immediately judged me about my blood pressure that I eat at fast food places.

My BP is high because A. It runs in our family (my mom died and my moms dad died very young of heart issues and had high BP). B. I have chronic pain daily and that makes it go up. C. Yes I worry a lot and lastly D. I don't get much exercise in due to my pain.

But NO I don't eat garbage. DH and I DO go out to eat at locally owned restaurants and I get salad and a healthy meal and bring HALF of it home. If we even go to a place locally for pizza I get a salad and ONE slice of pizza. And I eat very little and never eat salt and watch my cholesterol too (because that's high too ON medicines).

(I do eat pasta at home as that is my downfall but I don't eat junk or use salt)

Anyway when I go for my recheck on BP next week I am going to tell MY Dr. how he wrote that and I don't want that on my records because that's not why my BP is high.

He should have ASKED me what I eat instead of judging me. No Im not mad (maybe a bit irked). But more so, I just thought it funny he imagined me in fast food joints when I tell my grown kids all the time who go there how horrible it is. lol.

Get another doctor.

I'm still trying to figure out where the ""judgement"" comes in....

Doctors do see too many patients in a day, you're rushed through like cattle so often. It's a problem with our healthcare system. I think they often overlook the "standard" things.

I was talking to a co-worker a few weeks ago about how neither of us had been properly informed about what to expect after the surgeries we'd had. Things that weren't even put on the print out they give you for aftercare.

Shorty, I only post this because on the other thread we talked about evaluating diet for food sources high in sodium. I am not saying you don't already know this and I am certainly not judging....just pointing it out just in case:

Although pasta can have slightly different amounts of sodium, 1 cup of cooked spaghetti has approx. 325 mg. of sodium. Spaghetti sauce in and of itself is very high in sodium, with some brands having 580 mg. of sodium in 1/2 cup. So just one cup of cooked spaghetti with 1/2 cup of spaghetti sauce can have a total of 905 mg. of sodium. And that is really a small serving size and does not include if you add parmesan cheese to the serving.

It is recommended that individuals with high BP not have over 2 gms. of sodium per day (and really far less if people are willing to make that commitment). So just that one small serving of pasta is almost half that. Whole wheat pasta tends to have far less sodium, but spaghetti sauce is still very high in sodium. Not preaching here, just pointing it out in case you didn't know.

He didn't write that you went to actual fast food places.

Exactly. He was just giving information that MIGHT pertain to a person with high blood pressure. My husband has had circulatory problems for years, each doctor visit sheet advises of the danger of smoking regarding blood clots, etc. My husband is not a smoker but is aware of the connection. I imagine it was more "generic" to the medical condition, Shorty, than judging you.

Exactly. Many, many Americans eat fast food often, and the doctor was giving general dietary advice targeting behaviors that are often a problem, not "judging" the patient! This generic entry in the chart is nothing to be concerned about.

Get another doctor.

OP stated this wasn't her regular doctor; instead her doctor's office had booked her with another staff physician because her blood pressure was very high and she needed to be seen quickly. Good for them! In any case, it would be silly to "ditch" a doctor because he recorded generic dietary advice in a patient's chart. Insignificant.

Years ago, my doctor recommended me to a neurosurgeon for my neck. He seemed qualified. When I went back for a follow up, I asked for a copy of his findings. Someone in his office had taken someone else's summative report, whited out--not corrected on a computer, the name and changed it to mine.

In several places, it referred to lumbar region when I had gone for a cervical check up. AND it referred about half the time to him instead of her. It had my age wrong, etc.

When he was talking to me, he had managed to initial a couple of wrong things. And of course, there was the obligatory "dictated but not read" remark at the bottom.

I happened to teach in a specialized medical school, and I used it for years as an example. The students were appalled. I would never refer anyone to that doctor. He might operate on the wrong part!

It is illegal to use white out on medical records in my state. You can't erase, scratch out, etc. any info. One line through, initial it, then add corrected info. The mistaken info must remain legible.
