Yet another older woman (70) was taken in by a charmer she met on Christian Mingle to the tune of over $300,000 and now she's broke. I can't believe these women fall for these guys. The stories are shockingly similar. They have the same kind of accent (Ghana/Nigeria), use copy and paste letters easily found on the internet, have no command of the English language (yet sometimes claim to be a US citizen), etc..., etc...., etc....
Did anyone see today's episode? It breaks my heart that these senior women are vulnerable, but it also makes me want to thonk them on the head and see if anyone's home.
I think Dr. Phil got thru to her. I guess time will tell.

Incredibly sad. I marvel at how naive these women are, but I think they are lonely and they get attached to the attention and will do anything to maintain the connection. You would think the foreign accents and the bad grammar would tip them off. This woman actually shipped a Mercedes and a Jaguar over to Ghana for this guy. I felt sorry for her daughter, it must have been so difficult to watch this unfold and to see her mother ripped off so easily. I think it doesn't matter if Dr Phil gets through to her because this guy will be gone once he realizes she has no more money!

Doesn't really break my heart.
The woman's children did everything in their power to warn her and the woman basically shut them out in favor of someone she never met. And did I understand correctly, she didn't even make it to the funeral of her grandchild? She sounded very selfish. She was going to do what she wanted and didn't care about the consequences.

ITA, just to hear an anonymous guy say "I Love you" is what got to her in this case. very sad.

I didn't hear the part about her missing the funeral of her grandchild. IMO that would be very hurtful to the daughter.
I can see what you are saying about her being selfish -- and the part about shutting out people who love you vs. someone you never met.

Many years ago, before the Internet, when there were Personals in the newspapers, I got an answer to an ad that was an obvious copy of the man's original letter. This was the early 1980's and people wrote answers, mailed them to some anonymous box the newspaper used and the answers arrived later at your home, hopefully a nice, big stack!
That copy I never answered because it felt so wrong, but women must have because not long after I saw the letter, there was a news article about a man using the columns scamming women out of their money and homes. No one tied the man to the singles column I'd used, but I'd bet money they were the same. Too many details that were similar. Even then without any Internet, he had scammed quite a few.
BY the way - from singles ads in those days, the best ad I ever answered myself was from a man looking for a bridge partner. He wanted to start a small singles bridge group and needed a partner. That was 1988 and today I still play cards with the group he started because the group lives on although he hasn't. That ad worked the way it was meant to.

It's hard to believe that people can be that stupid. I did kind of feel sorry for her, though. Until she said that she loved this guy more than a man she'd spent her life with. How pathetic is that?
I was really surprised that 10% of their poll said that they WOULD send money to someone they didn't know that they "met" online. That's just nuts!!!
