OK. I'm lost. I didn't see the show and can't imagine I ever will, but nothing I read here (read about a dozen responses to OP) explains why Dr. Phil is off the rails. Isn't it the lying kid who's off the rails? What am I missing?

He's off the rails because he allows this nonsense to be broadcast. I can't imagine any respectable practitioner of any kind would put out such an obvious fake. Either Dr. Phil is so dumb he fell for it OR he let it be shown, knowing that the kid was lying. Not very ethical in either case.

Dr. Phil needs to research people before he puts them on TV.

It made for a great promo - "suburban kid belongs to a gang" and killed people. That promo got people to watch the show.

It was totally false.

How can this be either enlightening or entertainment?

This is what I don't get. The show is taped in advance. Yet, during the show, Dr. Phil gets "tweets' from people and they are tweeting about the show. So, how is that happening???

We know it's not a live show because of the promos at least two weeks before it airs.
