Re: Dr Oz in front of Congress

I don't believe in the flu shot either.

I finally got my dad to stop getting them too. He hasn't been sick in two years...

Neither do I. First of all, they are just "guessing" what flu is going to come around because they start making it a year before the next flu season. Most of the time, it's a different flu that's not covered by the vaccine.

Second, I don't care if they say it's all "dead viruses," because they lie all the time. I am extremely immune depressed and I don't need any viruses, dead or not, in my body. I have not gotten the flu in probably 20 years because I am careful.

40 BILLION Dollars spent by Americans pursuing weight loss "cures" annually, might be better spent, perhaps.....

Of course, it its peoples right to spend their own money as they choose.. but if many knew the real truth, WHAT exactly WOULD they choose?

I would guess that most fat people are not seeking a "cure" from health issues, but rather are seeking a cosmetic quick fix. I know for sure that I always was until a year ago.

Re: Dr Oz in front of Congress

Money and fame do weird things to some people. Too much hype for me. Same way with Dr. Phil. Almost "too entertaining"..... to the point anything they say loses credibility. Have to keep those ratings up, you know {#emotions_dlg.glare}. Sadly some otherwise "good people" are blinded and buy into these things. Caught up in the moment....

Re: Dr Oz in front of Congress

Dr. Drew was on last night and I was channel surfing (another one I'm not so sure about) but they were discussing it. His panel had a bunch of women saying we, the public need to be smart enough to do our own research before heading out and buying any of this stuff touted on TV. Yet one woman said she blames Dr. Oz because he, being a healthcare professional, should know better and has the option to refuse to use the words he did and at least not spoken or used the word "miracle".

Dr. Drew explained that he probably was just reading the cue cards because all TV is pretty much scripted. He said just before coming on the air he had been asked to read something he disagreed with and they went away and toned it down but he had to really push for it but the intent of the piece was still there. He more or less said it's what they have to do to keep their shows. The lone woman said, that's exactly what she was talking about - no one can make you do or say anything and Dr. Drew said that he was making no excuses but its bad enough for nighttime TV but daytime is much worse. SO basically he said it comes down to them doing whatever it takes to keep making money. To me, it makes them all nothing more than a snake oil salesman to me.

Re: Dr Oz in front of Congress

Does "big pharma" manufacture the supplements (i.e., coffee beans) that he promotes? I thought "big pharma" sells prescribed medication that a doctor monitors when taken by his/her patients. Having been on both sides, I know it takes more than a "magic pill" but in some cases pharmaceuticals have their place in weight loss. Depends on the circumstances and health of the person needing to lose the weight.
