Re: Dr Oz in front of Congress

40 BILLION Dollars spent by Americans pursuing weight loss "cures" annually, might be better spent, perhaps.....

Of course, it its peoples right to spend their own money as they choose.. but if many knew the real truth, WHAT exactly WOULD they choose?

Re: Dr Oz in front of Congress

I can count on one hand the times I have watched his show. But I liked him as a person, and trusted him as a cardiologist. I am looking forward once again to his reality hospital show on NBC which he produces, but rarely participates in. I think he swallowed the Kool Aid when it came to the TV show . . . it was what the producers wanted and it was making money. He has been made the fallguy.

I am disappointed in him, but I think he's a good doctor. Perhaps he should concentrate on the reality show and discontinue the "entertainment" show.

When Congress really goes after Big Pharma is when I will be convinced they are serious about all the toxic and rarely curative medicines they push on us legally on TV, hundreds of expensive and dangerous meds, every single day. That probably won't happen in my lifetime.

Dr. Oz is a Cardiothoracic Surgeon.DR. OZ'S show from the start was just like the magazines you see at the check-out in most stores. I never thought for one moment that any information I saw on Dr. Oz's show was something that he endorsed. Finally, Dr. Oz told he never endorsed or got money for anything he talked about on his show.Everybody wants a " magic" solution to their problems. Dr. Oz did say he will stop using the flowery words to tell what he thinks about a product. But I think Dr. Oz should stay in the operating room where he knows Exactly what he was trained for in Medical School.

Re: Dr Oz in front of Congress

I watched Dr. Oz in the beginning and he wasn't so bad. Then, at some point, every single day he was pushing a new supplement - not for weight loss. One day I figured if I bought every supplement he said was good for the body, I'd no longer be able to afford food and I'd spend all day downing pills. Yes, I think he probably is/was a good cardiologist but it seems once he got a show, I'm guessing he has forgone seeing patients and operating for the bigger bucks a TV show can get him.

I think Dr. Phil is another that was the same way in the beginning but now his egotistical demeanor and circus he puts on is shameful reality TV.

So this is what Congress waste time doing? {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

I guess because going after drug company's or the FDA for allowing what is really hurting everyone. The over processing of our food. The fact that Canola Oil, Soy Lecithin,Soybean and Corn Oil and High Fructose Corn Syrup are allowed in our food without any concern to the publics health. Don't even get started on the over processing of wheat.

That is what congress should be worried about not Dr. Oz.

Seriously what is wrong with this world?

I do not agree that everyone who comes on Dr. Oz's show is some sort of charlatan. He has had a number of guests who actually DO have research supporting their claims. Unfortunately, Oz's show is like a short attention span theatre and he crams way too many disparate topics into a single show and then makes up cutesy demos to pander to his audience who seemingly is only there to be entertained, not informed. He should either do in depth shows about health or none at all, IMO.

did anyone say that anywhere in this thread? I never saw those words used before you said them. And I am sure he does have some knowledgeable people on his show, I don't watch very often but the ones I've seen have just been over the top stupid. He had a guy on talking about giving injections for women so they can experience a real "or****" like men do and Oz was listening intently and agreeing that there was such a need for this type of thing. No there's not. There's a need to cure cancer but not for this. He made some ridiculous statement about how women deserve this. Really? This is important medical news? Just another doctor trying to make a buck from people by pandering to them at this level? No different than all those horrible ads for men with ED portraying couples sitting in bathtubs by the beach who now can use a pill so they can have 4 hours to do the deed. Just disgusting IMO.

We don't have to agree but I think he has to find material for all these daily shows and it becomes a joke to find enough legitimate guests to discuss real and relevant medical problems.

You certainly implied that those who come on his show don't know what they're talking about, putting quotes around "professionals" and mentioning the krap they endorse.

And maybe a satisfying s&x life isn't important to YOU, but to many women it is. I saw that show and it was discussed in which women this could be very helpful. I think open discussions about women's s&xuality are a good thing.

I've already said that I think he crams too much stuff into a single show and much of it is useless, maybe because the claims are bogus, maybe because it's just not discussed in depth, and maybe both. I have certainly found myself rolling my eyes at certain claims made on his show, which I find unfortunate because at times he does have legitimate guests and good information.

I said there is not a need for this like there is a need for a cure for cancer. I wonder how many women go to their doctors and are asked if they are having satisfying secks and if they answer no, their doctors are referring them to see specialists for injections. I think not many are discussing that. It wasn't that important to men either until the pharm company came out with the little blue pill, then all of a sudden men came from everywhere trying to get a prescription for it. I worked in the Endo dept at the time it came available for ED and many, many men had been seeing the doctors who had diabetes. I asked the doctors how many of them had discussed the problem of ED before they heard of the blue pill and they all said "none of them", the all of a sudden the phones were ringing off the hook with everyone claiming they needed the pill.

How about this? You think whatever you want as important in life and I'll think what I want. I want people to not suffer horribly from diseases such as cancer, Alzheimers, Parkinson's, lung diseases, mental illness, and many others. Having multiple O's is not on my list of what's important and if it was I'd talk to my own doctor about it.

Dr. Oz needed to hire some lobbyists...then they would have left him alone!

Re: Dr Oz in front of Congress

I've learned some things by watching his show now and then but I always do my research before I believe everything.

There's something kiind of creepy about him though.
