Re: Dr Martin Luther King Day

I don't remember exactly where I was on that horrible day but I do remember my emotions.  I was devastated, angry and saddened.  Here was a non violent man, a role model, a man who fought for justice gunned down by hatred.  It affected me in many ways just as the assassination of JFK did. five years before, two senseless deaths.

I honor Dr. King today for all he accomplished and for all he tried to do to make this world a better place.  That is how I felt then and still do to this day.

Re: Dr Martin Luther King Day

An interesting quote from when he was in the Birmingham jail:

“I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to ‘order’ than to justice. … Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will.”

Please note that he was from a time when use of the word "Negro" was common and not derogatory.
