@brii wrote:I'm organizing my pantry. I am putting everything into clear food containers.
I started a few days ago. As soon as I buy things from the store, they're going into a container.
I did inventory of my ball jars filled with dry goods this week, off for the canned food next.

Just today, I packed away file folders for the basement, to store. I'm trying to be sure all the ones that need to be filed together are. I plan to dig through the boxes of paperwork that can now be shredded and gotten rid of. We have to do that, it shouldn't fall to someone else down the road.
In the file box, I do have papers and 2 books in case we both passed at the same time. One tells about purchases on/for the house, the other is our info on things we pay for the house. It's so unfair to expect someone to pick up and know what needs to be done, if you are unexpectedly called away. (Pass unexpectedly).
Order is a good thing. Less is better too, I agree.

And, there lies the problem. As good as it sounds to say you are downsizing, you have to really think this out. I am kicking myself at some of the things I got rid of on my move, and what I ended up with on this end. Take your time! Now, I still need to unload some of this and go re-purchase some of what I got rid of. Not exactly feeling wise at this point. I'm sick of myself. Ugh.

What helps me the most: "Honey-Can-Do Folding Garment Rack."
Folds down to about 2 1/2 inches for a easy put away later.
I bought it on QVC.
I place the rack in the room and hang the items out of my way while I work to find what else to toss away.
I have a large red plastic basket to toss the discarded items.
Later place the discarded items inside a large plastic trash bag.
Reason for the garment rack it gets things out of my way. The rack has rollers so I can move it if I want to stop working. And roll it back later to begin to work again.
No more laying items across the bed while I am going crazy tossing wonderful things. This way I keep the room looking neat while working.
Also I use that folding rack to hang wet items outside in the sun to dry. Love the smell of sun dried items. Later I fold the rack and put it away and out of sight. Love that rack.
I should buy another one before they are gone.

I am getting the bug myself. Right after the first I will go thru things and donate or throw away.

This week I've been on a deep clean binge, top to bottom, wall to wall, curtains, windows, the whole nine yards.
I looked at something, wonder when that got so grungy or dingy looking and before I knew it I was into the whole room.
I've got three rooms left to go.

I organize 2X a year. (Fall and Spring) I wish my husband would get rid of stuff. He collects too much. Thankfully its all packed nicely in closets but still, I don't see the point of saving junk. I am the opposite, I don't hesitate to throw things out and I donate clothing twice a year to Goodwill.

Boy do I agree with purging the "beauty" collection. I have been getting rid of things I've tried and that I didn't find any success with and I'm sticking only with things that I know work for me.

@Bird mama yes, I know that feeling. I have 2 or 3 stuffed animals that my Mom had bought for my niece (her only grandchild). I still have them in the house. I keep thinking I should go ahead and donate them but somehow I never do and my niece is 35!

Sometimes you just can't let go, and those stuffed animals make you happy. Keep them and throw out the instruction manual for the 8-track player!
