Double Stamp Day

[ Edited ]

We always bought groceries on Wednesday. It was double stamp day. Stamps were given based on the total of the grocery bill. On Wednesdays, the number of stamps were doubled. Those were put into books and redeemed for all kinds of merchandise.

I felt so grown up when my Mom thought I was old enough to put the stamps into the little book.  I loved filling them up and going to redeem them.

So strange I should see this today.  Yesterday I was thinking about these stamps and my Grandmother.  I remember her putting these stamps into books.  Haven't thought about it in many years,.

And Blue Chip Stamps too.  So much fun to glue them in.  So much fun to decide what to get with the completed books.  I remember once we got a laundry hamper.

@On It THANKS for the memories!    It was always my job to put the stamps in the little books when we got home from the grocery store.    Actually I still own a hand mixer that was purchased with the stamps whenever I got married and yes, it still works!

@On It ... What a great memory! I put the green stamps in the books and I loved it! I used to love when my Dad came home from work and he put his keys and green stamps down on the kitchen table! I would squeal with delight when l saw the stamps!! That meant he was at the gas station! I wish l could remember what we got with them! It's fun reading what other people were able to get !!

What a fun memory!!!

My parents used to get these.  We'd collect them for awhile and then, as a family, would sit down one evening and fill in the books. Then, a few days later, we'd head to the S&H green stamp redemption center and get something for the house.  If there were any books left, they would give them to me to get toys.  I have no idea what I got with them though.

They had several books and stamps that hadn't been redeemed so when I was getting ready to move into my first apartment, they gave them to me and I remember buying some dishtowels and other things.
