I actually am fairly certain I already had it back in late March before you could test for it. That's my one and only reason for being cavalier. I honestly do have my mask on me and have worn it from time to time when most everyone else has one on just not to scare them.
Go ahead and flog but that's my pitiful excuse.
@Laura14 I saw on the news yesterday that someone in a nursing home in Tennessee has tested positive for the virus for the second time. You aren't necessarily immune if you're already had it.
@Nicknack Scientists aren't sure yet of how or why people seem to be reinfected but the theory is that it's more of a reactivation sort of like chronic EBV and this reaction will vary depending on a person's immune system.
There's a lot of debate about whether you can get it again. The antibody tests are 'interesting' but perhaps not always a hundred percent accurate. There are seven known coronaviruses that infect humans. Four cause the common cold, then there are those that cause SARS, MERS, and Covid-19. Some of the antibody tests detect antibodies to any and all of those conditions instead of just Covid-19. If you had SARS in 2002-2004 when it was in play, you could test positive for Covid-19 using some of the antibody tests. If you had a common cold recently, you could test positive for Covid-19 using some of the antibody tests.
The PCR testing is more reliable, but even that's not perfect. You get a certain percentage of both false positive and false negative tests from it.
Given the very, very small number of people who may have gotten Covid-19 a second time, I'm more inclined to think it's more a testing issue than an actual reinfection or reemergence of the virus. Now, in someone with a very weakened immune system, it's possible they either didn't produce adequate antibodies, or the antibodies were ineffective, but in the general population I strongly suspect you have immunity after being infected. If not, we'd be seeing many more reinfections than we're seeing. I strongly suspect that the very few reported cases are due to a bad test result or someone with a very compromised immune system.
For those holding out for a vaccine, it pays to remember that four of the coronaviruses cause the common cold and have been known for decades, but there's still no common cold vaccine. A vaccine could come, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it.

@Mominohio Cleaning companies are usually contracted. Not sure if that's the case where you are. The company that is contracted where I am (lab) doesn't provide their employees with masks! These employees are not in 6 figure jobs -(some should be!) and they can't afford to buy them.
We purchased for them. They've been with us for years, do a great job and are very important to us. Completely underpaid like so many who are considered "replaceable" in my opinion.
Hope it straightens out in your area. It's pretty appauling and (again) in my opinion somewhat abusive not to provide a simple mask to someody to keep them safe.

If people don't like wear masks, they'll really hate wearing ventilators.

And it appears that even now not everyone knows that they can spread it to others and that wearing a mask is one way to protect other people from you if you are carrying the virus and don't even know it.
Rampant ignorance suggests wd have a Mask of the Day thread.😊

@Mominohio I saw the notification that you mentioned me but I have not read your post. I just wanted you to know I wasn't ignoring you. It seems a response I made was not allowed so I'm just going to let this be.
I meant no harm to you.
Be well.

No, because the mask, unless it's an N95, doesn't protect HER, as has been stated over and over and over. It protects THOSE AROUND HER. Despite the fact that she could easily be a carrier, even a superspreader, she doesn't wear a mask and potentially exposes others. That's what's going on.

The mandatory mask mandate goes into effect at 6:00 tonight in Cuyahoga County. I don't know about any other places. I am in a county west of Cuyahoga and we don't have a mandate.
I was in a store the other day behind some younger man not wearing a mask. I had mine on. I heard her carrying on to the cashier about how he had rights and wasn't wearing a mask. I guess everyone elses' rights not to get sick don't matter.
