On the Domino website they say the sugar is a little less processed than the white sugar b3cause they leave a little of the molasses in it.

Re: Domino Golden Sugar

[ Edited ]

I keep a small container of dark brown sugar in the house for oatmeal when the grands are here,  but haven't had white sugar in the kitchen in years. Haven't tried golden sugar.

When I was a child, I had oatmeal with melted butter and brown sugar on it. Haven't had oatmeal since, except for in cookies.

I have never seen this type of sugar.  I only buy raw sugar in bulk and only have about 1/2 cup or so in a small jar.

Sugar just isn't on my grocery list and I haven't had white sugar in my house for decades.

I can see how this golden sugar would still have a bit of a molasses taste; maybe that is why people like it?

@Cakers3

Don't you make cookies, cake, put it on grapefruit? What about medicine, you need a teaspoon of sugar for that.

@occasionalrain   I can barely cook anymore, let alone bake.  The last thing I made was cornbread from a mix.

I never put sugar on my fruit and barely used it to make whipped cream.

Even little strawberry shortcakes are not sweetened with sugar.

I just do not have a need for sugar anymore.  Not to say we never have a treat but it's just hasn't been a staple in my kitchen for a long time.

And as much as Mary Poppins advises, I haven't seen liquid medicine since penicillin came in that awful pink liquid in the brown bottle back in the stone age.  LOL

A spoonful of sugar really DOES help the medicine go down, say scientists | Daily Mail Online

Haven't tried it yet but we use sugar in the raw and like it so will be trying the Domino version.  I don't use a lot of sugar except for the hummingbird feeders and those take a lot.

@Jk9  and anyone who feeds hummingbirds.   I know you didn't say you were going to use the golden sugar for hummingbirds, but since it's about time for the hummingbirds to return where I live I Googled it.

Domino Sugar's website says NOT to use the golden sugar for hummingbird nectar.  This is from their website.

Our Hummingbird Nectar Recipe

Simply bring 1 cup of tap water to a boil and stir in ¼ cup of Domino® Granulated Pure Cane Sugar until fully dissolved. Allow mixture to cool to room temperature, and then add it to your feeder.

If you have a large feeder, simply add more nectar by sticking to the ratio of 1-part sugar to 4 parts water. The solution will keep in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

A few things to remember when feeding Hummingbirds:

  • We recommend avoiding using food colorings, honey, brown sugars, or unrefined sugars. For example, you don’t want to use Domino® Brown Sugar or Domino® Golden Sugar, as the molasses in it can be harmful to Hummingbirds. You may use our Domino® Granulated Pure Cane Sugar.
  • Never spray insecticides or other poisons near bird feeders.
  • Properly clean feeders, replacing nectar every 5-6 days in cooler climates, or 2-3 days in warmer areas.
  • Hummingbirds also drink plain water, so keep a birdbath available nearby.
