Stopped into Dollar Tree today, and obviously Christmas is over and I missed it.   They were taking down all their Christmas items and putting up Valentine's Day.  Now that is really rushing the holiday.

I went in my dollar tree for gift bags.

They not only have Valentine’s Day, but spring stuff too. Garden gloves, small watering cans, and seed packets.

The retail world moves too fast for me.

That's disappointing. I know some people also like the last minute excitment of finding that special present or decoration or ingredient that they forgot. Not that it's always at the dollar tree but Christmas is special and it should last.

Maybe they are trying to appeal to people who don't celebrate Christmas or they want to get ahead of other retailers.

Still, I would feel sad if I walked into a store and there were barely any signs of Christmas left on Dec 23rd.

I was in Winco last week, they had Valentine candy on the shelf.

It is like Christmas in July, all the holidays so early, kind of takes the fun out of it.

As a lifelong retail person, I can assure you that being out of Christmas items already was probably not what they wanted to happen.  Stuff sells out and you have no choice but to bring out the next holiday / season.  It's not like they packed the Christmas stuff up and put it in the stockroom.

Many Dollar stores have opened in the past few years where I live and they're usually very busy. With the news about Party City it's easy to see where their business went.

Stores are probably not ordering as much as they used to so that there is no longer crazy overstock to get rid of.

In year's past, I always liked shopping right after Christmas for those markdowns, i.e., cards, bags for the following year.

On Q, the hosts are always telling us "the only order of the year".

Talk about changing seasons early, I'll always remember going to work at Saks Fifth Avenue on June 21 (first day of summer) and the winter coats would be out.Woman Tongue  Our bathing suits were always on the floor mid December.

All the attention now is on 2025 taxes, forms, changes, etc.

Stopped at Dollar tree a couple days ago, the Christmas selection was sparse.  Having empty shelves is not good in retail.  I can see why they would be bringing out stuff to fill them.

Probably because the economy was so bad this year, they bought a scant amount and then things picked up in the last month or so but it was too late to order.  Those ships from China take a long time to get here.Woman Wink
