@tropics21 wrote:that is your opinion, to some of us, our pets are our children, it's apparent you are old school

If you mean me, the apparent is that I have pets and I've raised a child. I know both.
It's not the same thing, but I understand that you feel your pet is your child. Thankfully you will never have to put in the same amount of worry and work that you would have to give a child.

At our Sam's a man brings his Great Dane, huge dog. No leash, very well behaved but he slobbers a lot. The man carries a towel with him. I know the dog isn't a service dog because he allows people to touch him and take pictures. The dog is very clean but can't get pass his foamy white slobber.

I've never seen walking a dog through the grocery store.
I know dogs are allowed in our Home Depot. You can walk right in with them.
I absolutely love dogs but I don't want a grocery store full of them.
Austin is a dog lover's city and I've seen dogs many places, but never in a grocery store. I do see them in other stores and there are restaurants with patios where it's common to see dogs.

I've never seen dogs walking in grocery stores, not even service animals. I don't have any problem with the small dogs that are carried in arms, coats or purses. I have seen some cases where they have been in the cart but hardly ever, and those were all on big blankets. It just doesn't bother me.
I'd rather they bring them inside instead of leaving them out in their cars when the weather is too hot or too cold, and people steal dogs all the time now. But yes, I would prefer they be safely at home.

If it is indeed a service dog.....not much you can do about it. Many people fake the service dog Thing and just call their dog a service Dog to bring their pets into stores. Personally I do not want any live animals in my grocery store.

One of the most wonderful books I've ever read is "Following Atticus".
It is a memoir and I will always remember how Tom's dog Atticus was welcomed into his New England town wherever Tom and Atticus went, including restaurants.

@QueenDanceALot wrote:So, do people who think dogs should be banned from grocery stores have dogs in their homes?
Or are they banned there too?
I have owned 4 dogs during my lifetime and loved them all. yes I do think they should be banned in grocery stores

Just an FYI, you can't ban a service dog from any public place, including a grocery store or restaurant. The only exception I saw was a hospital surgery room or burn unit.

The law is specific that service dogs must be allowed, the store or restaurant has no choice.
LOL I know that. That's why I don't mind them. LOL

I have never seen dogs running wild in the aisles of stores, but I've sure seen a lot of kids of all ages using grocery stores, Target, Walmart, etc., as their own playground while the parent(s) ignores them. The few nonservice dogs I've seen in these stores are either in someone's purse, basket, or being carried.
I've had more than one close call with an unwatched child running past the end of an aisle while I was pushing my basket out of the aisle. I get so tired of parents who let their kids run wild in stores!
And. no, I would never bring my dog into a store, but at least I know he would be well behaved if I did.
