Re: Dog guards ruins of Paradise, California home for a month after owner fled Camp Fire

Those dogs appeared to be at least partly Anatolian Shepherd.  They are not pets and don't even relate well to people; they're all about protecting their sheep.  You need to read the AKC description of the breed characteristics.  Here's an excerpt:

"They Know How to Survive on Their Own

Anatolians are extremely independent. They often had to find their own food, so they survived by hunting gophers and other small animals. Their instinct is to take care of themselves and the flock without needing instruction"

The owners did just what they should have done.  You don't take a 130lb dog that doesn't want to go and force it into a vehicle then pen it for days on end.  They knew the dogs would be okay and they were.  They understand the breed.

My cousin's home was leveled in Paradise, CA. He said it's doubtful that anyone will rebuild there. He lived in Paradise for over 20 years. It was a lovely place.
