Dog Lovers !!!!....What is best way to teach dog to alert you when he must go outside??

I take my little 1yr old chihuahua out frequently to try to time when she will need to go outside.....but.............is there any way I could teach her to let me know????....she has accidents and as much as I take her out...(home all the time with her) I don't understand why...or what I am doing wrong....tia...you are the best !!!!!!!!!!!!
