@Desertdi How do you get deliveries?
If it's a small pkg, the delivery person can push it between the upright rungs of the fence, or throw it over. Larger deliveries can be left outside the fence because WM and AMZ send an email upon delivery.

I would not want someone to come to my home unannounced.
I would not stop by someone's home without asking first. It seems almost rude to just show up at someone's door and expecting to be let in.

I just got re-acquainted with a friend that I haven't talked to since the 70s. We were best friends from 1st grade through college and then lost track of each other.

@Meowingkitty our rule too except for immediate family, parents, children etc. otherwise not going to open !
No children, no parents and the only immediate family is a brother in law and I wouldn't open the door for him either.

I don't find it odd. Likely she was in the area and didn't have the phone number to call. She was not a stranger but an old friend.

She was a stranger to the daughter who was the one who answered the door. How would the daughter know whether this person was telling the truth? Also, the OP did not refer to this woman as an "old friend" in her post.

I wouldn't expect the daughter to invite her in, but she could have ask for her name and phone number to tell her mother.
As it is, her mother will never know who stopped by and perhaps miss out on an enjoyable reunion with an old friend. She may have wanted to meet at a restaurant for lunch.

The OP said she knew this woman from 20 years ago, so she knows who it is @occasionalrain . Surely the daughter would have asked for her name?

Unless it was someone who I was very close to 20 years ago...
(And I can think of a couple of girlfriends that I've lost contact with, who fit that category), I would be annoyed that she showed up unannounced.
Yes, I'd act as if no one was home, if it was just a casual acquaintance. ![]()
