Teresa is not a psychic, she is a medium. She supposedly speaks to the dead, doesn't tell the future. IF she is speaking or seeing people that have passed, I am sorry to say, that I don't believe those people are in heaven. If she really is seeing these people that have passed on, sorry to say, they aren't in heaven. This is my opinion.

ITA. Since my belief system is God's Word there is no way I would go near any of this.. I do believe there are strange things going on out there in this present world but that doesn't mean they are dead people since the Bible teaches just the opposite. with warnings. Those familiar with Harry Houdini will remember he promised his wife if he could find a way to come back he would. Of course, nothing happened.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Glad to have someone agree, Bluegrassbaby, Biblical thinking isn't popular. Our pastor tells us to steer clear of these type things....they are not of God, but from the "other" side. People want to find comfort in these type things. It really is sad. If they know that their loved ones were saved before passing, that could be their TRUE comfort.

Again, my opinion.

Thank you for speaking up, bluegrassbaby and tends2dogs.Smile

I seldom express my opinion on this topic because it seems to be an unpopular one here on previous threads. I have pretty strong feelings about those who claim to be psychics and mediums for several reasons, one of which involves my religious beliefs. I realize it's personal and will vary greatly from one person to another. I would recommend anyone interested in some of the "tricks of the trade" might do some internet searches on the methods used.

There have been several exposés. I watched a couple of those (and a video in which it's shown exactly what Theresa Caputo does and how she does it, just like other magic acts).

You'll notice, the performance "medium" never tells anyone anything negative about their loved ones who passed. Well, anyone can do that. Also, if you watch carefully in an unedited or live performance you'll see people actually do give away cues and leads for the performer to pick up and expand upon. They get caught up in the moment, the emotions flood through them, and they see what they want to see.

Mind you, I do believe individuals possess personal, unexplainable sensitivities to their own loved ones who have passed on. I think all of us want to believe in psychics and mediums and that's a powerful incentive to overlook their sleight-of-hand. Believe me, I do understand that.

It's wonderful for someone to be comforted. We need that in our grief and it's important. And I have no problem with magicians who are honest and tell us we're paying for magic and sleight-of-hand. But I do have a problem with those who don't explain it's not real and it’s all nothing but paid entertainment.

jmo, ymmv. I genuinely don't wish to judge anyone for their differing opinions, nor do I want to tell others what to believe. I'm only offering my thoughts on the topic.

I overlooked this one before I posted above. we were warned we would be in the minority.I can't help but remember the warning about disguising themselves as angels of light and other scriptural warnings against this kind as well; that's enough for me.

Re: Does anyone watch Long Island Medium?

No, because I don't believe in them.

If any of them were real, they'd have taken James Randi up on his challenge and won. Mediums are con men and women who take advantage of people in their time of sorrow and need - I think that's despicable and there's no way I'll support any of them.

Yes, not everyone is of the Christian Faith, let's try and remember that, as well.... Like you say, it's a personal belief... My mother was Jewish, my father a devout Methodist... One of the interesting things the medium told me was that my dad said, " he had a strong faith, and was never afraid to "go", but that he "stayed" (on earth) longer than he SHOULD have, for me and my mothers sake, "........ironically my mother died only a month later...she had not even been ill...

Many years ago in Charlotte, I was introduced to a woman who immediately began to tell me about my life - a little from the past, but most about the future. I couldn't believe the things she was telling me, but down to the last detail they came true. I still think back to that time and am totally amazed.

Maybe they came true because she told you ... she gave you a map. You followed her directions. Self-fulfilling prophecy.

I imagine there are real psychics, but most of them fail when put to a real test. The tv psychics only seem to work when they choose the subjects. Then, most subjects start to volunteer information.

I'm afraid you're wrong. No self-fulfilling prophecies involved. I had four children. 3 girls, 1 boy. No possibilities for additional pregnancies. Yet, she told me I would have another boy and possibly two more children. I blew it off. But a few years later, my daughter gave birth to beautiful son - suffered severe, lingering depression, and her husband wanted nothing to do with the situation. I raised that child from five weeks until he left home at 27 to take an out of state job. DD recovered beautifully and has a wonderful family, but never bonded with that child. A few years later, a second daughter was involved in a horrible auto accident - not her fault. But I had to take her & her two children into my home and had them for a total of eight years. THE WOMAN WAS SPOT ON - seven kids.

She also told me that one of our horses would soon die from a kick inflicted by another horse. Further that the girl who owned the horse would endure some tragic happening in her family and that her horse would die. Two months later, a daughter's large pony was kicked in the rear leg, breaking the bone. Had to be put down. We didn't know which horse had kicked ours until the horse we suspected cut it's own throat on a barb wire fence and bled to death. The father of the girl who owned that horse had a massive stroke and her brother was jailed over drug issues. AGAIN THE WOMAN WAS SPOT ON.

She also told me that I would be married again one day - a thought which was totally beyond my imagination. I was very happy. But many years later, my husband died from a massive stroke and a year later I did remarry. I was the one who always said I would never remarry, but ONCE MORE THE WOMAN WAS RIGHT.

I could go on and tell you story after story about the things she told me. She said I would live to enjoy my 80th birthday. I will be 80 on Wednesday. A huge surprise, since no one in my family has lived past 71 before. If I make it till Wednesday, she'll be right again.

I'll tell you one more story about a different person, which happened years earlier. September, 1959. I was admitted to the hospital with a miscarriage. I lost a tiny boy. In the middle of the night I woke up hungry enough to eat a bear. I rang for a nurse, and an very small elderly nurse came in. She said she was retired, but filling in for someone who was ill. She asked what I would like, and I told her tomato juice and cheese crackers, which she brought and I ate with great relish. She was in and out of my room the rest of the night checking on me - they were to do a D&C the following morning. When they came to take me to surgery, she blocked the door and refused to let them in - told them that I was still pregnant and they were not going to a D&C. Because of her I declined the surgery. Five months later, my son was born. No one was ever able to explain who this woman was, or how she came to my room, or why she blocked the surgery, although several remembered seeing her. It seems that I lost one of a pair of fraternal twins. Yes, I do believe in Angels. And yes, I know that some people can see into the future.

I believe that the woman who told you about your future has nothing to do with God. One should know that Satan has a whole lot of power and is the great deceiver.

As far as the nurse in the hospital, I believe that she could have been a guardian angel of God sent to protect that unborn child of yours.

This is my opinion. I am not calling you a liar or anything else. I am just giving you my opinion based on my belief of what happened in your case. This is personal and we all have been given a free will to make our own decision in what we believe. I respect your right.

BTW I wish you a very happy birthday on Wednesday!!{#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

I like her.

You guys DO know, right, that the stories in the bible are just stories - written by men eons ago and revised a million times over the centuries. Just stories. None of it is actually true.

Re: Does anyone watch Long Island Medium?

I think those people who have never been to a medium are disbelievers. It was very comforting to me when my husband passed away to hear a medium tell me things that allowed me to know for sure that there is a heaven and that I will be reunited with my friends, family and even pets.

I remember when John Edward was on the View. Barbara poo-pooed it when he told her she had a heart problem. Within a year she had received a pig's valve replacement for her heart. She should have apologized to him.

I would say don't knock it till you've tried it. They don't all charge an arm and a leg.

Thank you for the Happy Birthday. As for the woman I met, about 40 years ago we were seated beside each other at a book club my friend had invited me to attend. She asked if she could tell me some things she saw in me. There was no deception - the woman seemed to be honestly speaking what she felt she saw in my future life. I don't think she was "sent" by the devil - if she had been, she would have deceived me or given me information that might be harmful to me or someone else in the future. There was none of that. Neither do I believe she was sent by God - I don't think He would have chosen me to see my future. She just told me things (many more than I recounted) that have all come true, and things that I couldn't have caused to be fulfilled had I wanted to. I have no choice other than to believe her, since every single thing she told me has happened, just as she said it would. I no explanation for her or her statements other than to say that I think some of us are of a more open mind than others. Perhaps if we were to use all of our amazing brains we might be able to do the same. Her comments to me were interesting at the time, and more amazing as they came true through the years under very unexpected circumstances. I never saw or heard from her again.

I've discussed this with Pastors and Priests. One said that I had been given a gift of prophecy to give me strength for what lay ahead. Others were as unable to offer an explanation, as I still am. But prior to you, no one has suggested that the Devil might be involved. There is much that is beyond our feeble ability to understand. As for your respecting my "right" to believe, I have no choice - I must believe what I know has happened. I was told more than 20 things that would occur, and if I live through Wednesday, they will all have come true. She told me nothing past my 80th birthday.

As for the little older woman in the hospital, I do believe there are Angels among us, and One saved the live of my tiny son. I shall be forever grateful.

For personal reasons I do not plan to speak of this again.

Re: Does anyone watch Long Island Medium?

I agree with HiLo, tends2dogs and Bluegrassbaby. I believe the Bible is the Word of G0D and there are many warnings against mediums, sorcerers, divination, etc. throughout the Old and New Testaments.
