My DH was wondering why it is taking so long for Dell to send the computer he ordered from them(only 2 days ago) and I casually said well, it is Christmas buying time so they are probably busy. He says "where do you get this krap - Christmas buying time isn't for a long time yet" To which I say "well , people get their Christmas savings in October and start shopping" and then he starts to tell me all about how no one saves money for holidays anymore yada yada yada . And that I need to go back to living in 1950. Clearly, my DH does not understand that when you have children to buy for at Christmas you can't just go out and shop - you have top plan ahead and have some bucks put aside.

I do plan ahead for Christmas shopping. I cut back on things I don't have to spend money on, so I can use more of my income on gifts. And if I use credit cards (a must for anything purchased online), then I also cut back on other spending in January so I can pay off the balances on those cards.

Christmas Clubs are alive and well at every bank in my area. I have had one and with direct deposit, the amount I specify is automatically deposited every month. I also belong to a credit union and they are becoming more popular also.

I was wondering about that a few weeks back too. The banks use to send out reminders that it was time to set some aside. Wouldn't hurt to get back to that. Banks holding onto that helped us save for the holiday.

My credit union offers Christmas Club accounts. Been in it for years. That's my car insurance/birthday money. LOL Works great!

We haven't had a Christmas Club for many years. I don't even know if our bank still offers them.

I am retired, but I still belong to the company's credit union. I've been a member for 40+ years.

I still have a Christmas club and the money is taken directly from my pay check. What I don't see, I don't miss. My club is for a substantial amount and we usually use it for something for the house; this year, we bought a new garden shed.
We still have credit unions, too.
