Does anyone know about Housing Authority?

Does anyone know much about Metropolitan Housing Authority?

One of our older family members

needs to move from where they

live now.

She needs the apartment complex

in her town that offers all of what

she needs for her disablities.

But the complex only has 2 to 4 bedrooms.

She is hoping to get into one of the 2

bedrooms, and is consulting with her

family doctor on all this.

Wondering if anyone would know if a

doctor can "override" the housing

guidelines that only take into account

the number of bedrooms!!!

She needs the walk in shower, the

laundry area and garage but they

are not offered in any complex around

her location with a 1 bedroom!!

I hope you can suggest something.

@CherryHugs

I would suggest you call an attorney, usually consults are free.

Where I live the housing authorities are run by the county.  So nobody on this site will be able to help you.  You will need to contact the housing authority wherever the person lives.  Rules are different for each area.

@CherryHugs You need to contact the housing authority in the COUNTY where the person lives.

No one here knows the situation in that area, wherever it is, you didn't say.

Rules and regulations vary.

You may also try and contact that county's Department for the Elderly.

Where I live, each city and town has a housing authority, with very, very long waiting lists.

In my area the housing authority is managed by the city and to apply takes a phone call to get a pre-application form. There is no online application process nor is there a waiting list. Approval process starts with that phone call.

Re: Does anyone know about Housing Authority?

I worked in mental health as a psychotherapist and served as a case manager for many of my clients.  If the person has a disability that requires them to have adaptive equipment- wheelchairs and other devices and needs physical assistance,-then sometimes they will grant them a larger unit to accomodate this.  If the person is elderly, then the local Council on Aging can offer assistance to them as well.  I am assiuming that you are referring to a person on HUD housing with a Section 8 housing voucher.  Hope this helps.
