Would like your thoughts and reviews if you do. I need a fridge witout an ice or water dispenser and aytag and Whirlpool seem like the only two available. Not that either one is available to buy, but I'd still like feedback.
I do know to stay away from Samsung.
Thanks all!

I don't have a Maytag but I do have a GE side by side. I like GE but HATE the side-by-side and can't wait for it to break down!!! The freezer section is next to useless. Did I say I hate it???!!!

@NigelSparkles I agree. No to the side by side.

I had a Whirlpool side-by-side. I've had it for about twenty years, I think! Never had a Maytag, but have had a GE - would not recommend; but, I think GE products are made in the USA now - again not sure.
I think Kitchenaid might own Whirlpool - again not sure. I know they own Jennair. GE owns Haier. Imho, it's a good idea to see whom the parent company is, then figure out which level (good, better, best) you want. I could be wrong, but a company that excels in stoves might dumb-down the stove and upgrade their model; same with fridges, etc.
I've owned both side-by-side and bottom-freezer models. I prefer bottom freezer, but side-by-side ain't so bad - you just gotta go vertical whenever possible. I like the side-by-side fridge section 'cause - call me crazy if you'd like - my furbabies always enjoy peeking in and checking out what's inside this 'magical device'
.
Anyways, you're smart to ask on this forum: people tell you their likes/dislikes. Imo you can't also trust reviews online as I think they're skewed.
Good luck and hope you enjoy your new fridge!

We've had a Whirlpool side-by-side for about 3 years and love it. Due to limited space in our kitchen, the Whirlpool is our "overflow" fridge in our laundry room. It enables me to stock up at BJ's, especially when they've got coupons on items we like.
The only issue with the freezer is that fitting full-size frozen pizza boxes in there can be a challenge. Otherwise, it holds everything for our family of three very nicely. The interior shelves are nice and deep; there's tons of storage on the freezer door for regular-sized bags of veggies, freezer packs or similarly sized items. It has a slide-out bin at the bottom where I put 2 pound bags of shrimp and frozen meatballs (it holds 5 or 6 bags easily).
The refrigerator's a little bit wider than the freezer. It has 2 bins at the bottom and is open everywhere else. There's a butter keeper at the top of the door and plenty of shelves on the door. You can't put a gallon jug on the door, but pretty much anything else will fit.
Even if we had a bigger kitchen, I'd still want my French door refrigerator in the kitchen. At our age, it's so convenient to have the refrigerated items no lower than waist height. But I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Whirlpool side-by-side as the overflow.

Not sure who owns Whirlpool, but I found out that Whirlpool owns Maytag. I went over to Lowe's to look at the one they list online and it looks decent. Not that looks mean anything when it comes to utility. They've got 1 in stock at the moment. That means I need to make a decision quickly.
I've got an additional issue - my soon to be 90 year old mother lives with me and she gets very fearful and anxious when it comes to new things in the house. Some dementia. She's not reacting well to the prospect of a new refrigerator. She also doesn't understand about the supply chain shortages and short life spans of appliances these days. Seems like everything in my life that should be simple are complicated. Sigh.
I looked at bottom freezer as well. Those won't work well for me. i prefer to be able to see what's in the freezer wtihout having to bend and fish through there. The freezer on top models also aren't ideal - I'm too tall and need to bend to use the fridge.
@eddyandme I don't currently have any pets, but when I did have dogs, I was never allowed to open the fridge without their supervision. 😄
Decisions, decisions...not something I do well. Appreciating all the feedback!

Mom had a Maytag in the 90's and it didn't last the year I think. It was a disaster, as was a Maytag dishwasher.
We both had a Whirlpool from the 90's or late 80's that lasted forever. Hers was in the house well into the next century.
But that was last century so I don't know now.

I always thought that I would love to have a side by side refrigerator until we moved into our home and the previous owners had one in the kitchen. I absolutely hated that thing.
Even though it was still in good shape , after a few years I told my husband I wanted to get rid of it and get a french door refrigerator. We bought a Maytag Ice2O French Door Bottom Freezer back in 2006 and since that time my husband has only needed to replace one small part on it.
When we do need to replace it I want another french door refrigerator. I would never consider another side by side.
