Re: Does anyone else obsess when you have misplaced something?

I understand your frustration. Seems like when I relax and let it go (say a prayer) I find my item at a place that makes sense. This summer I misplaced my BIL's birthday gift purchased in June for his August birthday. Looked all over the house -- even in the car trunk. Found it in my walk-in bedroom closet, where I hide Christmas gifts. Oh, brother, but I found it in the nick of time.

Re: Does anyone else obsess when you have misplaced something?

I do get obsessed when something important has been misplaced. I had a musical snowman that that my son has given me many years ago and we always placed it on the end table next to our Christmas tree as all grandchildren loved to mash the button to see the snowman sing and dance. The snowman became a family tradition for all. Last year, another son that does not have children, put it underneath the cabinet in our guest bathroom after the youngest grandchild kept playing. Since this happened late in the day, I didn't notice with so many family members here. Well, it took me a month to locate that snowman. Ha, ha. I looked everywhere . Finally, I took a 20 minute nap with this on my mind. When I woke up, in my minds eye, I saw it under the cabinet, pushed way, way into the back of the cabinet. Sure enough, that's where it was.

Yes and I lose my glasses so often and they are hard to find -- not really any color -- and I take them off to read. Try to always put them on top of my buffet but often forget -- especially when I am changing cloths, etc.

Used to hide jewelry when I went away and often took months to find it. As an friend once said "I hide things from others but wind up really only hiding them from myself."

Anyway I get upset because I am so scared it is a sign of dementia -- I am elderly -- and fear finding them in the freezer or something like that which I guess is a sure sign.

Re: Does anyone else obsess when you have misplaced something?

I would not say I "obsess," but it's always in the back of my mind. I misplaced my driver's license this week, and it took me a whole day to find it. I wasn't constantly searching, but occasionally checking for places it could be. When something is lost, it's good to take a break from looking for it, otherwise you just continue looking in the same places an become more frustrated. I did find it sandwiched in among some other small papers. Whew, I certainly did NOT want to go to the DMV.

Hueneme, I have a feeling you tucked it somewhere for safekeeping. Seriously, take a break for a few days. I think you still have it.

Re: Does anyone else obsess when you have misplaced something?

Yes, I had misplaced a cross that I had bought for myself and I was frantic as I bought one for my Mother too. She passed away and not to have my cross really upset me. I looked all over the house, tore everything apart and it upset me for weeks. I even prayed on it. Anyway, I finally found it and it was in a basement closet with some clothes that we hung there that we use rarely use, old coats, etc. And there was the cross hanging down from one of the clothes as it had gotten caught. I was so relieved that I sat on the floor and just cried with happiness. My husband walked in and wondered why I was crying. So I really do understand. I rarely lose things so to lose something valuable to me was very upsetting. Hope you find it.

{#emotions_dlg.scared} Just this morning I misplaced my glasses for the computer. I did not get upset because, I knew they were in my home office. I took a deep breath and back tracked my steps and found them in the place I remembered I left them. My house keys I found in the lock in my door one day, thinking I lost them. I did not get too upset thought a moment and I found them. And then got embarrassed not upset. What a great feeling when you find these things when they are displaced.{#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

It is a GREAT feeling when you find things! Smiley Happy

Several years ago I thought I had 'lost' my favorite antique opal necklace (it is shockingly beautiful - huge opal set in 18k gold with a couple of little diamonds) and my favorite Burmese ruby pieces. I was heartsick and couldn't figure this out. One thing I am not is careless. I actually have a 'thing' about carelessness.

Anyway, quite some time later, I found those pieces and a few of my other most favorite pieces hidden away in a little hard case travel jewelry box, in an armoire, in my bedroom. D'oh! That's usually the way it is for me - I put something 'away' and hide it from myself.

You're not along. When DD was still at home, before leaving for college, she could find anything - I mean anything. She has a gift that way. She also finds money on the sidewalk. Has found 1s, 20s, and once found a $100 bill.

Hope you find your cameo soon. I'd send DD over if you happen to live in Portland...
