I don't have a bell and they don't knock. My little dog is my door bell. They get to know her (barking).

It depends on the driver. I live in a second level apartment....sometimes the driver rings the doorbell and I go down and he hands the package to me. Other times I find stuff outside under the mailboxes attached to the building.
A couple times with heavy packages the driver has kindly carried them up the stairs to my front door for me....which was truly appreciated.
It would be a VERY difficult job, for sure. Anytime I have actual contact with the drivers, they are always pleasant and professional.

I know the drivers here are timed, and I've seen the timers come around with them.

usually i leave the garage door open and he leaves it near our door. sometimes he will leave it at the front door if the garage is closed.
When we have wine delivered, a signature is required. If I'm gone, my UPS driver leaves it with our next door neighbors who are willing to sign for the wine since they often partake in eating and drinking with us!

A signature "should" be required for wine deliveries but I know my regular UPS guy well, and I've told him he can sign for me if I'm not home, or working out in the back part of my property.
There was a sub yesterday, so he asked for a signature.

We give our regular UPS man a Christmas gift every year—not cash—as well as our mail ladies.
So do we. Nothing extravagant, just a small recognition and thanks. And not cash.

He doesn't need to. I have a miniature schnauzer and he is my doorbell. I think he can hear the truck coming from two mile away.

Gift certificates to their favorite garden centers seem to be a huge hit with UPS and USPS delivery people, as well as the lawn care men and the snow removal men. We've been doing that for several years. When spring arrives, I hear rave things about how they spent the gift certificate at the Garden Center! This year, my beautician is also getting the same thing. Makes shopping easier and the receipient is able to select what they want. Win-win.
