@LizzieInSRQ I always wondered why until a friend who wanted to buy a washer and dryer explained to me that she had a Credit Card for the Store with the higher price.
She took the ad and the Store adjusted the price otherwise she would have had to pay cash to the Store with the lower price.

@Sage04 ah OK. I don't have store credit cards. I guess that makes some sense. Thank you.

^ That makes sense in most cases, but there are times when one might purchase something, then two days later see it advertised for a lower price.
Seems like after-the-fact price matching is much less common than it used to be. Circuit City and Best Buy used to guarantee their prices for thirty days, but I think Circuit City is out of business, at least in my area.
Many stores have even discontinued price matching their own reduced prices, but QVC has given me a refund if the purchase was made within a few days before the reduction.

Awhile back I bought a set of luggage. Turned my TV on less than a week later and it was being offered for $80 less. I called and they refunded me that 80.

@Highlands22 years ago I was an assistant Manager at a Circuit City Store in Florida and I can still remember seeing all those coupons that were brought in daily. Of course we had to match the price. They are out of business in my area also.
QVC has given me a refund if the merchandise was bought within 30 days.

I have never personally asked for a price match, but I have been with my husband a few times when he made the request. In each circumstance, we were at one store looking at an item. He then looked the item up on his phone to see if we could buy it cheaper elsewhere. When he found that we could, he asked for a price match and the store did it for him.
Price matching can be convenient for the customer. You're already at one store, ready to make a purchase. To have to travel to another store for the same item might be an inconvenience for some, especially if that particular store is in another town or out of the way.
Price matching can be beneficial to the store as well because now they get your money from the sale. If the customer left to buy the item from another store, they would have lost your business altogether.
I don't think it's common practice anymore, but it's always worth a try if the price difference is substantial.
As far as QVC goes, no way. If they price matched, they'd be constantly losing money. Most of their items are overpriced and can be found elsewhere for much cheaper prices.

No, they do not price match. Not even with HSN. I recently called customer service to ask about this, since a pair of shoes I bought here was priced much lower at HSN. I was told they not price match.

I have never heard any channel say they will price match. I have seen JTV show ads from other stores with the exact same piece of jewelry and store prices much higher.
