Does Anything really help a head cold?

It seems as if anything I've tried for a head cold does virtually nothing. Maybe I've not tried the right stuff. Does anything work to unplug a nose, stop nose dripping, sneezing, etc.?

I'm not the one sick....yet.

Nyquil is the only thing that ever helps me. Mostly it just has to run it's course.

Fate whispers to her, "You cannot withstand the storm." She whispers back, "I am the storm."

I think you can only try to make yourself feel as comfy as you can and let it rein its course ... there's a saying something like if you treat a cold it lasts a week and if you don't it last 7 days.Smiley Happy

Re: Does Anything really help a head cold?

I got a couple colds very close together recently, which is unusual for me, so I thought maybe I all of sudden developed some allergies - with the pollen vortex and all lol. Anyway...I bought some generic allergy medicine, and it really worked for the sneezing and runny nose. I also couldn't live without Sudafed when I'm really miserable.

I just had a bad cold or virus 2 or 3 weeks ago. The only thing that helped me was Afrin Nasal Spray( I used the pump mist moisturizing kind).

Isn't Sudafed the one that is safe for those of us that have High Blood Pressure?????

Yes, I too have been doing a lot of sneezing and blowing.....and my car used to be white, and has now turned yellow......yuck.

No, I think I've seen a commercial for Coricidin (sp?) that is supposed to be OK for people with high blood pressure.

Saline nasal spray and Mucinix. That's what a NP at my clinic told me and it works. Since it's spring have you considered the possibility of an allergy? I get cold symptoms every spring but I start on the OTC Allegra and it disappears.

Thanks.....I knew there was one out there, but just didn't remember which one it is. Along with high blood pressure, I also have glaucoma, so have to be doubly careful with what I take. My doctor does have me taking Nasonex......but I try not to use it very often.

Re: Does Anything really help a head cold?

7 to 10 days will do wonders for a head cold. Otherwise all you can do is treat the symptoms.
