We have a 3 1/2' (or so) artificial tree in front of our large picture window, and are considering a fiber optic tree within the next few years. I saw a beautiful one, about the same size, at a local garden shop--included very colorful and tastefully-done ornaments, too.

This particular place always stocks the base bulb, so we wouldn't have to worry about that. Also, the decorative "pot" was nice (can't use a tree skirt since the base gets hot) and covered up the bottom of the tree so it didn't look "leggy."

All I can say is that I remember the early fiber optic decorations, and they've really come a long way. DH isn't entirely convinced, though, so it's not a sure thing yet.
