@Texasmouse  What about the word "pricey"? I've been quilty of using that lately.

@on the bay  When I asked the question, I was aware "gifting" was from a Seinfeld episode in 2005, IIRC. It was funny then, when used as humor and written by professional writters for comedy.

merriam-webster......pricey is an adjective.

There is something about word useage, for and against, threads that I find pleasing. How is it that a simple word or phrase can annoy to such a degree? I think less of those who use words and phrases that I dislike. Lately I've been receiving a lot of requests for donations, who hasn't, that want me to "chip in". Just no to chip in requests.

No, I don't.   It sounds odd to me. Almost like trying to make a word "high class" and formal.

 

Had a niece thank me for "hosting" her children after a visit.  Perhaps the way she used it in her note was proper, but it just sounded awkward to me.

I don't, I'm sorry.  I would just say "he gave her a gift."  Saying "gifting" is a little too pretentious for me.

Only in RE GIFTING which I know has happened to me and I admit to have done.
