Using non-words like "gifting" makes a person sound stupid.

I don't say "gifting". Another word I've been hearing lately that's new to me is "spendy".  I don't like either.

Never.  And it's like nails on a chalkboard when I hear it used.

Re: Do you use the word "gifting"?

I believe I can say I have never used the word "gifting".  Also, I have never used the word fabrication, the correct term is fabric.   According to the dictionary, a fabrication is

a lie.  I do not care who uses it instead of fabric, it's still wrong.

Re: Do you use the word "gifting"?

Now that you are making me think about it, I realize that I have never used the word "gifting".

I don't have any strong feelings about "gifting", but sometimes I do hate newer, overused terms that seem to come into popularity all of a sudden.  They often annoy me.  However, saying that, its amazing to me  how fast I will find myself picking them up and using them to death.

One which I use ALL the time, and I annoy myself when I do, is the word "issues" instead of "problems".  This has been around a long time now, but I can remember when it wasn't.  "Do you have an issue with this?"  She has a drug "issue".  On and on.  Like it makes a problem less of a problem and more of a state of some kind.  I don't get it.

When I find myself annoyed by the in-fashion terms, I do try to remember some book I read in college by a semantics guy, who said "language is a living thing", and will evolve constantly.  That helps me to try to accept those changes that I find grating to my ear.

Re: Do you use the word "gifting"?

Although it's a real word (even outside of Q World), I don't use it.
