@fthunt My municipality texts emergency alerts and emails them as well.

I haven't had a landline in years.  When we vacation, almost no rentals have landlines anymore.

I was glad to get the table space when I got rid of the landline.  I think it is more uncommon now to have one than not.

Like @NYCLatinaMe , a landline is included in my package but I don't use it.  I gave up my old landline #.  When we report a power outage, the automated answer uses my old phone # and asks me which address I am calling from.

Re: Do you use a landline phone?

Yes, have a landline.  We use it the most.  DH and I each have cell phones but we don't use them much at all.  If it were up to me I'd just ditch the cell phone but more and more they are making it so you almost have to have one.  I think it's a pain dealing with them.  And they are always changing things and they are so expensive.  A big racket as far as I am concerned.  Years ago I only had a little Trac phone - a flip phone and I bought a card for minutes.  I kept it strictly for travel in case I broke down or something.  That was all I really cared about.  I hope they don't make it so landlines are taken away!!

My house isn't even wired for a landline.

Re: Do you use a landline phone?

I live in a city, and we ditched a landline a long time ago.  There are some areas of the country, though, that have no cell service.  Believe it or not.  We drove through several areas like that just last week while on a trip to Arkansas.  Locals have landlines but also have cell phones.  They have to drive to the top of the hills/mountains to get service or will have service if they travel to larger towns/cities.

Re: Do you use a landline phone?

I no longer have a landline, but I miss it.

Ours was a traditional wired line, but some years ago the service got more unreliable than my cell, and much more expensive then it had been.  The phone company no longer services the lines and our cell service had improved rurally in the meantime.  I just couldn't justify the expense for the unreliable service any longer.

But if it had remained reliable and affordable, I definitely would have kept it.

I have a landline and a cell phone which I rarely use.  Will never give up my landline.

Re: Do you use a landline phone?

I gave up the landline about 2 1/2 years ago when my cable/phone bill went to $250.00. They didn't even want to negotiate the price, so I cut the cord. I pay $115.39 for cell, wifi tower and tablet from T-mobile and pay for streaming. Still miss the land line and cable, but this is more affordable for me.

Unfortunately, polical calls don't just happen on landlines.  I must have gotten 2 - 4 political text messages every day for the last several months.

Only 2-4? You were lucky. I was getting 30-40 a day all asking for money and I never gave them a dime. When I cleaned out my deleted text messages I had over 600 of them. Of course I am in a swing state so that probably made it worse.
