Once I fall in love with a design, I can price shop - but how often can you find the design you really want at different places at different prices. Sometimes in a classic design, but even then finding exactly the same item you love elsewhere can be challenging.
I've lived through the years of having to settle because there was no way I could afford much of my heart's true desire, and I was lucky even in those years because I could "settle" for some very pretty, classic gold. Now I wear that - and when I see my heart's desire pieces at 4 and 5 figure prices, I just laugh at myself.
I agree with this. I do like to shop for the best price but sometimes while you can find something cheaper it isn't exactly or even close to a piece you may have found and love.
I get my jewelry from many different places. I do have some costume jewelry but I also have a very good collection of nice jewelry. Some is inherited but the majority I have picked up over the years. There are 2 really great jewelry stores in my town that I love but I get stuff from everywhere. Ebay, small boutiques, estate sales, etc... I have picked up some really nice pieces of estate jewelry from of all places, GEM tv. I got some really nice Art Deco pieces, which right now are my favorite along with some morganite, emeralds and tanzanite rings, necklaces and earrings.
The TSV necklace is a pretty good deal. My mom has been looking for a substantial gold necklace and I bought her this one for Mothers Day. I nonchalantly asked her about it when she was over today and she really liked it. I mean Judith Ripka has some SS pieces that are close to that price so I think she will really love it.

I've already accumulated all the good jewelry I'll ever need. About half of what I own was given to me by my husband and I did the rest of the damage myself. If I were looking to replace a simple chain necklace, I'd shop around. I do break down once in a blue moon and buy a piece of Israeli jewelry because I admire the hand workmanship and they're mostly silver.
My last impulse buy was a Byzantine necklace just about the time gold started going through the roof.

That is awesome! Love it when that happens.

Last weekend I bought a pear shaped aquamarine ring in wg with tiny diamonds lining the band on both sides. It was an estate piece from my local jeweler. I just love it.
Last year I got a really good deal on a wg .86 ct diamond ring as an estate piece and I love it. I wear it when I'm in the mood to wear white metals. My original engagement ring is in yellow gold.
I'm picky when it comes to gemstones. I loupe a piece before I buy because I hate stones that have dings and scratches.

If you feel like sharing, what was it about the pieces that you loved so much?

I bought a byzantine ring from Qvc a long time ago and it came apart. C/S said it was too delicate to be worn everyday and that was just how byzantine jewelry is. Will not buy the TSV at any price after that.

Someone in Jewelry also had that problem. I wonder if forming it into a rolo link and making it a bracelet is going to be a problem. I'll be interested in reading the reviews when they come in.
