Re: Do you send Christmas Cards?

I sent out only eight this year as many friends and family have passed.

I enjoy sending them as well as receiving them. I'll take traditions over trends any day. It is a simple gesture of caring and thoughtfulness.

Well said @RetRN  I feel exactly that way too, much preferring traditions over trends also. 🎄❤️

ps. Absolutely, to each their own here...no wrong or right thing, just interesting to see what everyone is doing these days, and how they feel about it.

Sometimes, this year, I'm way busy.  But, if it should be, I'll do it.

My situtation is the same as most of you, I still send them but not nearly what I used to send.  I mailed 20 cards this year on Dec 3 and have received seven so far.  I enjoy it and I'm sad that it seems to be becoming a lost tradition for many.  I'll most likely keep it going but not sure for how long.

@amyb Your post cracked me up as I don't care for those life update letters either, LOL,

just send me a short note and I'm good.

Exactly! I always feel just a tadddd guilty admitting to it, like the Grinch. "Sorry, not sorry" but those cards, though probably not intended to be this way, they always feel more like social media...it's all about me, me, us, me, here's what we did all last year!!! Rather than "thinking of you, hoping all is well and wishing you a Merry Christmas!!" One is about THEM, one is about who you are sending a card to...which, to me, in my most humble opinion, is what it's about.

I open them, and it just literally "feels" like it's about them, and has little to do with wishing me anything, so I don't feel anything from it. Anyhoo, call me old school or Grinch....I OWN it! Lol.

@amyb But aren't the Christmas letters supposed to update you on what is going on with others? And is it just sharing good news or bragging? I guess it boils down to whether you really like the people or not.

If it irritates you, I'd just not send them any more cards. Maybe it is a relationship that is no longer working for you and that happens in life. No blame, but sometimes people just wear out their welcome.

Sometimes the best thing is just back off and give yourself the permission to let that relationship go.

@Sooner No, lol...I'm not that "mad" at them or it. They are from people I still love and some I see, some from afar...not people that annoy me. It simply was my thoughts on the pic/update long letters was all. It's kind of a this or that for me...sometimes I am curious what they say, some of my friends actually do a better letter update than others, sometimes with a personal note too. So, I was just expressing my preferences, (ok, with a little snark)...and I still love traditional Christmas cards best. But no...no one I'm "stepping back from" at all. Smiley Happy

That is so interesting that you owned a Hallmark Store.

I would love to hear about the rules they had but maybe you aren't able to post them here?

Our Hallmark Store closed too several years ago.

@amyb Well I'm happy to hear that!  We over the years have had some really mad people over holiday cards or letters--so I thought maybe these folks need to step back and rethink some people they hear from!  Sounds that is not the case with your happy holiday!  Wonderful!!! I hope all is happy for you!

@on the bay

When I owned the Hallmsrk Store..it was like buying a franchise store..Like Mikey D..

Store had to be a certain size..had to buy all fixtures from Hallmark so all the stores looked similar. Even though I owed the store, paid the rent and all expenses.I was not allowed to put any company's product in the store without their OK...I could not put anything but Hallmark products in or on the Hallmark fixtures that I paid for...They didn't have foreign card line for holidays..which I sold a lot of..I had to get them from another company and had to have a seperate card rack for them...Big store..big rent big expenses you can't have a half empty store when the area warranted other things also...I'm not talking cheap stuff either.

I had crystal, expensive plush and other collectibles but not on their fixtures!..I can remember Valentine's Days when I could not leave the balloon machine...I had great employees.

After 12 yrs. the area changed so I decided to sell..and retire...I grew up in retail and most of the time it was fun..you always had a few crazies though...I was in an area where I grew up so everyone was like a friend everyone knew each other.

The way things are today.,I would never want to own a retail store of any kind.

Hope that gives you some insight.
