It sounds like most of us walked to a small grocery store for our moms. Once in a while I was told to buy a can of salmon and given a dollar. I think I might have gotten a whole dime to spend on myself. I probably bought a Twinkie or a Hostess cupcake

The store even had cookies in a glass case you could buy by the pound. My  dad like the pink or white cookies that were square and tasted like anise

Yep, I loved the dots on the paper, and when I had more money to spend, I bought the candy necklaces.

OH gosh yes.....thanks for the memories. I remember pop rocks and those candies that fizzed too LOL. With the wax soda botles, lips etc I chewed and spit the wax out eventually. Did anyone swallow the wax? LOL

Absolutely!  My favorite place was G.C. Murphy (Murphy's).  They had a candy counter where you could buy various chocolates and nuts that were so much per pound but all along the perimeter was their penny candy.

I know some kids ate the wax..not me!  I just liked the sweet liquid that was in the bottles, whatever it was!

I'll bet kids today don't get to try these mystery products
