Re: Do you really think overweight people want to be shamed about it?

Didn’t she ask her step father to fat shame her?  How awful.  My dad fat shamed me and my sister and we both ended up with eating disorders.  When is this woman doing to be canceled?

She was talking about herself.

The article clearly states that.

Her statement, “Some of us want to be fat shamed” is not referring to herself alone.

The ‘some’ being used is for conversation only.

She says ‘some’ then proceeds to tell a personal story explaining...

referring to herself.

Sure it is Woman LOL

Out of 7.5Billion people in the World....

there’s probably one other person using the same tact of

’tell me I’m fat’ bit....so that qualifies ‘some’.   Hee

The problem is that shame is not a motivator.

It is not a catalyst for change. It is quite the opposite: a deterrent for making changes. Shame doesn’t make one a stronger person or promote growth.

It actually keeps people stuck and damages self worth.

Maria Kang’s can definitely be interpreted as fat shaming of women, particularly those who are mothers. It should be seen as a type of bullying: mocking and putting down mothers who do not look like her.

It needs to be an example we learn from. We need to become more aware of the fat shaming happening all around us. And most importantly we need to be more aware of our own actions: are we participating in the problem? ignoring it? or working to fix it?

I guess some people do require a family member quipping about their eating habits and that is what she requested of her step father while going to school.  Maybe she looks at it like an intervention.  Most people though would not appreciate it.

@puttypiesmom   It is coming from a person ,who  had a nasty piece of work on her show, to affirm her own sick attitude

Why would he?  It’s not sexual harassment or even gender specific

.

Does all harassment need to be sexual?  Why even bring up gender specific?    I think it sounds like bullying?

from the article

Megyn Kelly revealed on her show Thursday that she used to have her step-father fat shame her when she was gaining weight in law school

'I said to my stepfather, "If you see me going into that kitchen one more time, you say, ‘Where you going, fat ass?’" And it works!' she said

The article doesn't really state who she thinks it would work for besides herself.

Just a reminder, but there are young girls and boys who committed suicide because they were so hurt by fat-shaming.

This is why she was being interviewed.

First you have to recognize there’s a problem.

Second you have to find your ‘Why’.

I don’t see anyone shaming anyone else.

But I know some people will see/hear what they want to see/hear.

To me it appears there is a lack of a good support system to encourage weight management and I don't mean diet programs or pills. It needs to start in the home.  I believe when we get that part right then positive things will follow.

@lovescats

You did not refer to her step-father, you said “If a man said that”,
