@suzyQ3:  I don't think you gave her the answer she wants to hear.  So, she keeps asking until she gets the right answer.

@Hoovermom@suzyQ3@goldensrbest

Exactly-it's a way of getting in a dig without actually posting a political remark.

@Cakers3, I'm just not getting that feeling from this poster. The comments from all of us seem to transcend political POVs.

But when a disaster hits, there will always be accusations of government missteps. Sometimes it's warranted. I guess we really won't know this time until all is said and done and we have the big picture.

But still, it is a fact that there is much needed governmental involvement right now.

@suzyQ3  It appeared as such because multiple posters answered her without acknowledgement.  I'll take the heat for this one but I'm not the only one who thought the post was not on the up and up.

If anybody is watching the news it would be obvious that the gov't is doing quite a bit and will continue to do more.

@goldensrbest  I apologize for my comment but it would have taken some heat off you if you had thanked the posters who responded-it appeared you were ignoring them.

@Cakers3, check out her Post #32.

I noted that she had seemed to ignore replies and posted to that effect, but I just thought it was more stubborness or typical anti-government stuff in general than anything partisan.

@suzyQ3  I also took at it as anti-gov't but I didn't say it was partisan, to clarify.

Any time the gov't is mentioned, whether pro or con, it can be viewed as political.

Truthfully, it's not a stretch to consider a remark as partisan, but that was not my intent.  I cannot speak for the other posters.

I'm going to focus on this tragedy for its own sake from now on.

That was my question too. Where are getting the information that there is no government help in TX?

I find it much more productive to be optimistic about what IS being done than to search for reasons to criticize based on fake news.

@Ms tyrion2  I don't know who you are referring to as far as fake news, but I have heard on both CNN and NBC  that 12,000 National Guard members (the entire Texas National Guard) are on site now helping in the rescue effort.  Both stations have said nothing but good things about the rescue efforts.  I've watched CNN almost all day.  Yes, they have spoken with people on the phone who have called 911 several times and still no one has come to rescue them.  That is not fake news but is to be expected during national emergencies such as this.  They have spoken personally to the Governor and various Representatives from Texas as well as people who have been rescued and are waiting to be rescued.  They have helped connect people with their families and in some cases have helped with the rescue efforts.  I think they've done an excellent job in reporting accurately what is going on.

@NickNack, read Ms tyrion2's post again. I think you will see that you misunderstood her.

@suzyQ3  I took Mstyrion2's post to mean that fake news was reporting that not enough was being done and that the poster who was complaining was basing her complaints on fake news.  From what I've been watching there is no fake news re: this.  If I misunderstood her I apologize.

@NickNack,

My opinion about fake news was based on the fact OP continued to say there was no

Government help despite many posts stating evidence they are. She was asked by me and others where she was getting her information that there was no government involvement.

My comment about fake news was in that context.

Do you see now?

I did misunderstand @Ms tyrion2, and I apologize.

@Cakers3, I appreciate your clarification. I tend to think of political in many contexts as being partisan, so that was what I went with.

Yes, I'll join you in your focus. :-)

@Marp  Thank you for the list of support services in place.  I'm as frustrated as anyone with government but I also believe in giving credit where credit is due.  This time government is proving they've learned from past events, but now they'll once again be learning because each time brings new challenges.

And no matter what we learn, we'll always need what I call micro-local involvement -  the fireman who helps someone down 23 flight of stairs when the elevator is out, the stranger who wades in and pulls a driver from his car, the boat owner who rescues neighborhood animals from roofs -  they're never going to be totally supplanted by the massive work only government can and should do.

There are some events that simply go beyond our ability to counteract.

Having said that, we in general have a decaying infrastructure that demands attention. But it would cost us money. I'll say no more.

ITA on all counts.

It's just not humanly possible to plan ahead for every conceivable disaster that might befall a city or region.

And whereas when the infrastructure was created it was largely funded by healthy coffers of the Federal govt, that's not the case any more. It's a lot more than state or county govts can handle. People are already taxed plenty for a variety of needs. The whole issue is a tough call.

One superb thing about this whole hideous disaster is the way the local, free-lancing individual residents are responding to the call to help the more organized police, fire personnel, National Guard, Coast Guard, Red Cross, etc. etc.  Everyone working together as best they can, some very heroically.

You seem to have many questions, call the governor and talk directly to him yourself.

And while you are there, tell him how to do his job.

We can't expect the government, the churchs, and big or small organizations to do it all.  I think we Americans are guilty of that sometimes. The thought occured to me that unless I have actively done something I shouldn't even be posting about this.  I don't care if it's only $5.00 or being a volunteer or what.  We are all neighbors. We all have to pitch in with some kind of action.  With that said, knowing many of the people here like I do....I am sure many of you already have pitched in for Texas.  God Bless Texas!!!
