@Imaoldhippie  And, if you use your credit card the same thing can happen.  The only benefit is the dispute process on credit cards means you won't be charged until the dispute is resolved; you don't have to "get your money back".  I guess the alternative is to carry fistfuls of cash and run the risk of having someone rob you.

I pay with a credit card but it did happen to me once at the gas station. My bank has one good thing, inmediately informs me of a transaction they do not recognize. I live in Miami and the transactions were in upstate NY the same day. It can happen anywhere, but they advise you use the pump nearest to the cashier.
