Re: Do you identify yourself when you initiate a phone call to someone you don't know or don't know well -- like in business

Always, it's proper etiquette and I have an oustanding name.

Do you identify yourself when you initiate a phone call to someone you don't know or don't know wel...

I identify myself with first name and last name regardless of whom I am calling. Yes I know about caller ID I had it back when most people had never heard of it or 3 way calling, but I prefer to speak my name to those I call.Only my name shows up not my wife's. That was her choice not mine. The number may show on their ID but not who is calling if it is a multiple person telephone.

Yes and I get their name too in case. Because I deal with many incompetent people on the phone. People don't do their jobs like they used to.

Yes, I always identify myself and I learned that in business school.

Even with caller ID Dh will not speak to anyone who does not identify themselves.

Duh! Of course I do. Why wouldn't I?

Was Yuban, then changed to Plaid Pants due to forum upgrade, and apparently, I'm back to being Yuban.

It's funny - nearly all of us are saying "Of course!" or something similar, but I cannot believe the number of people who call a company that employs hundreds of people and say, "Hello, I need to talk to Robert (we have eleven Roberts) or some other first name. I'm not the receptionist, but all of us back up the switchboard from time to time to give our principal receptionist a break.

I was taught to say, "Good morning, this is Sharlee Last Name from Boss's Office at Big Aerospace Company. May I please speak to First Name Last Name in the Whatever department?" Most people don't say anything like this nowadays.
