@cherry wrote:My mother loved Mahalia ,but she loved Ethel Waters even more
Hi cherry: You probably know about the hard times that Ethel Waters was born to, and went through during her life. What a lovely woman she was,and her voice was outstanding.

Thank you for this great thread! So many memories. I come from a long line of musicians, and music has always been a huge part of Christmas.

@Drythe I have always loved and been fascinated by the Magi. I have a book that was found in the secret( meaning private) archives in the Vatican Library. It had set there undesturbed for centuries. Some Scholar found it ,and brought it into the light of day. They have something like 5 miles of nothing but books ,and manuscripts. So things just set where they are ,unless someone discovers them
The name of it is the Revelation of the Magi, by Brent Landau

@cherry wrote:I have always loved the Cherry Tree Carol. I think it's origins are southern, but I am not sure. We don't seem to hear a lot from Joan Baez but I have always enjoyed her

I grew up in the Appalachians of NC and can hear the the changes of the old ballads ringing in this song. It brings wonderful memories.

@cherryYES, YES, Love IT! Love how they presented the song. Love the episode it was on and ESPECIALLY LOVE the end of that episode where they call all the people behind the sceens to come in front of the camera for their moment of fame at the end of the Christmas show. Have never seen anything else like it.

We are in the liturgical season of advent, and will be until Christmas Eve. We don't sing any Christmas carols in mass until the Christ Child appears
We have songs appropiate for the season of Advent, which means waiting,
One of our songs is O come ,O come ,Emmanuel. Joan Baez is singing it in this video
